Report Out - Great Leadership Lessons from Movies
On February 17th, after watching the movie HACKSAW RIDGE, I posted on LinkedIn a reference to that movie, and another movie which offered Leadership inspiration to me – TWELVE O’CLOCK HIGH. I asked others to share their views on the same, I was a bit surprised by the response. In fact, there were more than 4,300 views of that post, over 145 likes and more than 55 comments.
Check out the visual above, you all shared more than 45 movies from which you received leadership inspiration.
Twelve O’Clock High, Patton, Apollo 13, Gettysburg, Saving Private Ryan, Sully, Remember the Titans, Stand and Deliver, The Longest Day, Lone Survivor, We Were Soldiers, Bridges of Toko-Ri, The Great Escape, A Bridge Too Far, U571, Top Gun, Invictus, Braveheart, A Few Good Men, Twelve Angry Men, Glory, The Wizard of Oz, We Are Marshall, Crimson Tide, Miracle, Karate Kid, Harry Patter and the Goblet of Fire, Facing the Giants, Good Will Hunting, Maximum Effort, Zulu, Driving MS Daisy, The Devils Brigade, Shawshank Redemption, The Right Stuff, Master and Commander, Fletch, There Will be Blood, Lawrence of Arabia, High Noon, Batman, Guns of Navarone, Das Boot, The Cruel Sea, Glory Road, Hacksaw Ridge
What an incredible collection of movies.
I’d promised to summarize the input and share across LinkedIn. The 55 comments converted to almost 17 pages of input. So, I have chosen to share the feedback and context, movie recommendations and the like via pdf. That link is noted below.
Hope you enjoy the depth and range of the input. I hope and expect it will inspire all of us as leaders, and guide us through our own journeys and the immense responsibility of leading others.
After reading the document, let's keep this leadership conversation going. Share your thoughts, in particular I'd be interested in how you as leaders might use this information to improve your leadership of people and your teams?
