Rick West is the CEO and Co-Founder of Field Agent, a global Work-On-Demand Platform.

Prior to starting Field Agent, Rick worked 16 years with Procter & Gamble in various assignments in the United States, Hong Kong and Bangkok. Since leaving P&G, he has been a start-up Entrepreneur for 19 years.

Rick has co-founded multiple start-ups, including the Northstar Partnering Group, CORE4 Research, JOYN, and most recently Field Agent. He is a mentor and speaker within the entrepreneurial community and an active board member. He is also a member of the global Endeavor Entrepreneur network. Rick is an 8 wing 7 and has a BBA in Personnel and Industrial Relations with a minor in Economics from the University of Kentucky.

Me and Rick talked about many interesting subjects. Just a few or below. To watch or listen to our full time together, go to one of the sites at the end of the newsletter.

So we're going to start with something personal first, talk to me about how being a granddaddy has changed your life or impacted you.

If you know me, I'm a storyteller at heart, Jason. If I go back and look at my kids growing up and the way I've grown up. I grew up around grandparents and then when we moved away. We've lived in multiple places, the United States with Asia for a while.

I didn't realize what it was like not to have my kids grow up next door to their grandparents. The impact for me recently has been just to realize the time that you have as a grandparent is different than a parent because you just have a different pace, a different perspective. To look at those little eyes differently at my age and it just impacted me to know that when you think of legacies and what you're going to leave behind. My relationships with these kids as grandkids might be as much or more than I have with my kids and that's an awesome responsibility.

Talk about your decision making process of going from Proctor & Gamble, to join the world of startups.

I think a lot of that had to do with my upbringing, not really an entrepreneur. But just dabbling and working and getting things done. Then with 17 years of PNG and in many cases, living and working in Hong Kong and in Bangkok, was very much like being an entrepreneur. I was with customers, I was out making decisions, nothing was standardized.

Then I realized that all roads lead back to Cincinnati and that's not a bad thing. But it was gonna lead me back to working in a cubicle within a specific department and kind of take me away from that frontline experience of working.

If I learned anything about myself in Asia, was that I really, really enjoyed engaging customers and solving problems. Once you get a taste of that and you get some autonomy, it's really, really hard to go back. So they relocated me back from Thailand to the states. They gave us all a separation package and we used that as angel money. So for the first six, nine months, we didn't have to worry about taking income in and we used that money to fund our business.

Rick, your faith is important to you. You serve as an elder in your local church. Talk about how being a man of faith affects your business decisions and the life you lead.

Obviously you have people looking at someone who say, Oh my gosh, if he's a Christian guy, a stereotype. If he's not a Christian, I get a stereotype over there. When I use the word faith, my faith as a believer coming into what I do, my organization. Whether you're an outside person looking in or a team member looking in. They realize what Rick's principles are and how he lives his life is very consistent.

Believing in people, the morals of our company and what we do. How we treat people, how we give and how we encourage. That's in our DNA and everything we do. I just happen to be working for a Jewish carpenter called Jesus. But that's his piece over here, right? But what outsiders should look at, even though they may not be a person of faith. They should realize that Rick and his organization is consistent. They're givers, they give back. It's an amazing place to work. They do really, really good work.

Rick, tell us some more about your company, Field Agent.

What we've transitioned into is that our app allows everyday people to collect data. I'm one of the few people on your show, Jason, that can pay people money. If you download our app, and you answer a few questions, go to a store and take some pictures. I'm gonna pay you cold hard cash, no points, no badges. You'll never be the mayor of field agent. But I will pay you cash to do something. That's number one. Number two, because of the 2 million downloads we have and the hundreds of 1000s of people engaging every single day doing tasks for us.

I can provide amazing data such as auditing a price or seeing if a display is up in a store or showing me how to use something inside of your home. I can provide amazing insights, because instead of asking Rick or Jason, what they think about the baby aisle and baby food. I'm going to send it a mother of two because her opinion makes a whole lot more sense than Jason's and a whole lot more sense than Rick's. Because she's going to give you a mother's perspective. Or a female from 18 to 35 that goes to the cosmetic aisle. That's really important to get inside some mystery shopping and because the business we have, since we're engaging those shoppers. We can also have them buy your product, try your product and either write a ratings and review or tell a story. Then from a social media standpoint become a micro influencer for you.

Rick invites you to reach out to him by usine one of the below social media platforms.

You can talk to 10 people, there'll be strangers and I will help you out. All you have to do is either DM me directly on LinkedIn, or go directly to our website and go to affiliation.net and engage there and go to info and say hey, Rick told me, he will give me 10 Free concept tests to talk to 10 Strangers, so I'll help you with that.

Rick has the following advice for us.

Remember being successful is probably the least of your worries. You'll be successful, someone being significant is really hard. I launched this product and I was successful launching it. I'm like, anyone can launch a product. You want to be significant. Is it selling without you? Have you scaled it? Do you have a team that believes in what you're doing? Do you have a following. Significance is different than being successful. Because almost anyone listening to your show, can spend a little bit of money, create something and push it out there.

Significance ties to relationships. Do something that allows you to be significant and you're not going to be significant till you push it out. When you find something that someone is willing to pay you for, look out man, because you're going to make an impact on the world.
