The Rise of Asian Techies: Shock-and-Awe Campaign of Xiaomi?

The Rise of Asian Techies: Shock-and-Awe Campaign of Xiaomi?

Xiaomi, a Chinese start-up in 2010, has reached to a point where Apple and Samsung might need to rethink their strategy.

The founder, Lei Jun, believes that high-quality technology doesn't need to cost a fortune.

Will Xiaomi be the Apple of the emerging market?

Critics suggest that the company is not doing anything new but only copying the already successes in the smartphone industry. In addition, they also consider its cost leadership and innovative status unsustainable.

So is this a cookie-cutter approach or ...? Apparently, it seems that Xiaomi has all the right ingredients to break-in the smartphone global industry clutter.

  1. LOCAL GROWTH: Increasing potential in the Chinese middle class market. Why buy Apple or Samsung if the same can be bought at the cheaper price???
  2. DIGITAL ECO-SYSTEM: Xiaomi has provided a digital eco-system but way cheaper than the competitors.
  3. ASIAN COLLABORATIONS: Xiaomi has made the collaborations with e-commerce emerging joints in the soaring economies, such as, India, South Korea and Singapore.
  4. DIGITAL MARKETING: Xiaomi has mostly counted on internet sales and word-of-mouth buzz, esp in the global market.
  5. LOCAL FINANCIAL SUPPORT: Xiaomi’s ever increasing financial firepower. Not only Chinese but Singaporean & Russian financial institutions are also willing to invest in the company.

Bravo... the people of so unique attributes; hard to find elsewhere. The piece was so engrossing; a bit 'dry' though considering the topic. Well handled one at that. Just when I was about to surf away, I noticed this dialog among readers. I felt so relieved as while I was going through the piece I thought some 'foreign' writers and readers were behind it but no way sir... I felt so happy, hey, we are the same as ever. LinkedIn could do very little to change us. Long live the unique people. But... there is a big BUT... The response of the writer again brought down my happiness level regarding us being just the same. Superb reply!
