The Role of Money in Business: The Limiter in the System or the Facilitator of Mission-Driven Impact?
I remember one morning in the park, when I received an image of the Earth locked into a grid called money. “Money currently limits the evolution of the planet”, was the message. And I could clearly see that the collective thoughtware that we currently have around money, and how we use it, will not help us evolve as a society.
Tying money into service, while being part of the coaching industry I often struggled with the concept of pricing (or rather, to choose one pricepoint). Pricing is positioning? But this also felt limiting.
In my earlier coaching days, I was introduced to certain belief systems, like for example that my pricing would be a reflection of how worthy I think I am, that you should charge more in relation to how good you are at what you do otherwise you undervalue yourself, or that if someone can’t meet you at a certain investment, it means that they are probably not ready to work with you.
In this framework, pricing/money became something that would define me, or my work, or the other person. And even though I explored and entertained these concepts for short periods of time, somehow none of them fully resonated with me.
So I began exploring other pathways, where I started experimenting with customized pricing. I would set out my collaboration proposal, and ask Higher Intelligence what would be the price to communicate, that was in the highest good of the collaboration and all parties involved.
In additional experiments, I would ask the one purchasing my services to tune into the price that felt right to them to pay, in an open conversation together.
This led to, among other things, offering an incompany workshop per donation to an early day start-up, a growth partnership where I would receive a fixed consultancy rate + a business growth commission (%), and a company wanting to add 55% to the amount of my initial default price.
It has been dynamic, playful, and most importantly: not limiting. No longer was money the reason that I couldn’t work with someone, or a company, who my (company) mission wanted to support. But there was also no limit to the ways money could support me and my company, because there wasn’t the financial restriction that comes with a one-price-for-all model.

When I talked about this with a friend who has a background in the corporate world, she lovingly mentioned that companies and corporations probably wouldn’t take me seriously with a pricing approach like this. But I feel so passionate about the possibility of integrating circular economy principles in this way, where those with a larger financial capacity are able to indirectly support the growth of, for example, early day start-ups, or non-profit foundations.
Because THE FUTURISTS Consultancy is for both the early day start-ups, as well as the non-profits, as well as the large corporations and multinationals. Each, and if, in their own right, are building and leading the New. And for that mission, we all need each other.
Another reason why I love this pricing approach, is that it supports the transcendence of our current thoughtware around money. Not only is money no longer connected to our worth, our value, or does it define our services or the other person/party, which is all very limiting, it also invites us to surrender our own money-related belief systems to serve the larger collective, to discern and submit to higher guidance vs. our egoic preferences, and to trust in a higher power.
It invites us to think about money in a larger circular way, beyond our own business reality. And it has a natural instinct built in, where we let our mission lead, instead of money. Right now, and for a long period ahead, we won’t be living on a planet without money. But we do (to some extent) need money to build the New. So I believe that we need to move to business models where we don’t let money be the limiter in the system, but rather a facilitator of a higher mission-driven collective purpose.
So, THE FUTURISTS will be moving forward with integrating a customized pricing approach, and we will keep you updated on our discoveries, insights and experiences along the way!
