Russia-Ukraine Crisis and the World Affairs
Since last month, the tensions between the Russian Federation and Ukraine were rising due to a border crisis. There were many concerns about a war between the two countries, until Russian President Vladimir Putin, last week formally declared a full-scale attack on Ukraine through his address to the Nation. As soon as Mr Putin declared war, the reactions came from all over the world. The arch-rivals of Russia, which is the West, sent strong reactions against it.
Before the war, the NATO countries said they would support Ukraine in case of war, which was obvious, as NATO was made against Russia. However, when the war broke out, all the NATO countries, instead of coming out in support of Ukraine to boost their Military wealth, just verbally extended support, which actually shows their interest in supporting Ukraine. The real reason behind this is that Ukraine is an Eastern European country, which before the dismantling of the USSR, was part of the USSR, and was a Communist Country under the Soviet Sphere of Influence, and it will be very obvious that the West would never support them in true letter and spirit, and the reason they are condemning the current ongoing war is to counter Russia. On the other hand, the Russian President has warned of the serious consequences, if NATO or any other power tries to intervene in the conflict.
Conflicts such as that can lead to World Wars. If we peek into the history of the commencement of World Wars I and II, we see events similar to that. First World War started with the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, who was the heir to the Austro-Hungarian Empire. His assassination ignited the spark to the first world war, in which other forces intervened, and it turned into a full-fledged war, bringing in destruction in four years (1914-1918). Moreover, the Second World War started with Hitler’s invasion of Poland, leading the Allied Powers to intervene and convert into a full-fledged war causing destruction around the world. Looking at these patterns, if any other power including the USA, and NATO try to intervene, this could turn into a World War, once again. It would be a demonstration of stupidity if other powers try to intervene because war favours no one, and only brings about destruction. If we see the current scenario, we live in a Nuclear-armed world, and the Russian Officials have already warned of Nuclear war, and have put their Nuclear arms on high alert. It is extremely important to avoid such a situation, and Russia should also think wisely and resort to dialogue instead of war.
In view of the Military operation, the problems in the world have increased. Oil prices increased to the highest level in history, due to huge demand and less supply. This is bringing in the hike of prices of all commodities directly or indirectly related to Oil and is also disrupting the growth of industries. The world economy which was already in shatters due to COVID-19 is once again on a downfall due to this war. There is already a big shortage of oil worldwide, and this would damage the economies even more.
The UN, which was created to avoid such conflicts, after World War II, has completely failed to fulfil its duty, as it is sabotaged by the world powers. The other powers really need to refrain from taking any sides during this war, or else it will only escalate the matters, instead they should help bring Russia and Ukraine to the table of negotiation, and solve all the matters with peace.
Technically, the West, betrayed Ukraine, leaving it at the mercy of Russia. The people are losing their lives due to the war, families losing themselves and it is a complete breakdown of life. The powers, who consider themselves as the champions of human rights, must see the human rights violations and help their role in ending this war situation.

However, besides, this I think that NATO has also done horrendous acts in history, such as Afghanistan, Vietnam, Korea, Iran, Iraq, etc. Hence, they do not have any moral authority to condemn Russia. The best way to avoid escalation is to remain calm and neutral. Eventually, talks will happen.
However, as the spotlight of the World media is on Ukraine, there are horrendous acts being done against the people of Palestine and Kashmir, and no one is talking about the violations of human rights there, which completely shows the biased attitude of the Western world.
In conclusion, I would reiterate that War is never a solution to any problem. Everything can be solved through talks. History exists to teach the lesson, if we don’t learn the lesson from history, then it will be called stupidity. The world powers need to rethink their stance, including Russia, as well. A policy of Neutrality will be helpful to avoid conflicts such as World War. There is a need to understand that destroying everything would never bring peace.
