EU Regulates Microplastics under REACH
On September 27, 2023, the European Union issued Commission Regulation (EU) 2023/2055 to regulate microplastics as substances on their own and in mixtures. The provisions in the new law will be implemented in phases, starting October 17, 2023.
EU Issues New Regulation on Batteries and Waste Batteries
The European Union published Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 on batteries and waste batteries. The new law establishes requirements for sustainability, safety, labeling and information for all batteries. It will be implemented in phases, starting February 18, 2024.

On September 11, 2023, the CPSC voted to adopt the voluntary standard ANSI/UL 4200A-2023 (Standard for Safety for Products Incorporating Button Batteries or Coin Cell Batteries) as the mandatory consumer product safety rule for consumer products containing button cell or coin batteries, to be codified at 16 CFR 1263.
UK Government update to UKCA marking regulations
UK Government announces decision to indefinitely extend recognition of CE marking for most goods enter GB markets. These updates apply to the 18 regulations that fall under the Department for Business and Trade (DBT).
ECHA Consults Over Six Substances as SVHC
On September 1, 2023, the European Chemicals Agency launched a 45-day consultation period over the listing of six chemicals as substances of very high concern. If approved, the number of SVHC on the Candidate List will expand from 235 to 240 entries. Comments will be accepted until October 16, 2023.
