Sales can be Lonely
Do you feel alone as an entrepreneur? The Darwinian nature of the business world can be a very lonely place. How do you get or feel supported? Do you have a group or non-competitive alliance for your professional life?
Mentors, coaches and even old friends are essential to keeping a balanced outlook in your life. Bringing home your work situations is highly detrimental to both personal and romantic relationships and can sometimes be a negative influence too. Your partner and relatives don’t necessarily know the mechanics of what you do or how the work relationships/hierarchy functions.
Their input is not necessarily the best for a good outcome.

I’ve been blessed with wonderful mentors throughout my life and I also have made strong bonds with other people throughout my work life that are a constant support system. Once in a while, I’ve encountered professional support groups like The Dirty Old Ladies of Software in the educational technology space or eWomen Network, where business women let their hair down and share real challenges in a safe environment. My experience with my publishing house Difference Press also introduced me to like minded people who have made a huge impact on my professional life.
Women I went to high school with and I meet regularly on a Zoom call to discuss our lives, work and families. Before accepting a management position a few years ago, I enlisted their advice and wisdom on how to negotiate my needs. It was a safe environment with women I share very basic values with from core developing years. It works!!
My point is, get support outside of your daily personal life. It adds perspective in a way that balances important decisions and outcomes. Keep it interactive and safe. Ultimately it helps your growth and performance.
