In Sales, Haters Going To Hate

In Sales, Haters Going To Hate

As you embark on the journey to become great in sales, you are going to attract  haters. These can be your peers, your competitors, your friends and even your family.

People will start to criticize you for how hard you're working, how much time you are investing building your pipeline, how much cash you are investing in training, how much time you spend solving your prospect's goals and needs, and even how you write your sales scripts, give your pitches and close your deals.

Success is limited only by how much action you take and how much attention you can get for yourself, your products and your business. If you think about it, anyone that accomplishes anything great in life creates both haters and multipliers.

People who support your success and want to maximize the impact you are making in life are what I call multipliers.

The opposite types are what I call haters - these are people who are hating on you because they are jealous that they gave up on their own goals and dreams in life, so now they invest their time trying to bring you down, and try to stop you from accomplishing your own.

Look at some of the best, richest and most successful people in the world....Warren Buffet, Elon Musk, Steve Jobs, Larry Ellison, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, Oprah Winfrey, Michael Bloomberg Cheryl Sandberg, Marissa Meyer, Lebron James, Floyd Mayweather, Michael Jordan, Donald Trump (shameless plug for 2016 presidential election).....the list goes on and on.

All these people had both multipliers and haters. In fact, show me anyone that is successful in their line of business, and I will show you that they generated massive amounts of attention and criticism, both good and bad.

I learned this lesson very early on in my career when I was 19 and a sophomore in college. I was building my second startup with an amazing team of expert marketers and entrepreneurs.

At the time, we were always working nights and weekends so we would take a break in the evening and watch something on the big-screen we had in the office. Luckily for us, the apprentice just came out and we were glued to the screen. If you recall, the apprentice didn't always have this celebrity crap, the first two series took real life ambitious entrepreneurs and had those entrepreneurs work tirelessly to win a general management position at one of Donald Trump's Corporation's.

During that time, I studied the first two season's of the apprentice multiple times and took notes on why the successful entrepreneurs were successful, and why the unsuccessful entrepreneurs failed. One of the biggest takeaways from the show was that the people who failed and got fired by Mr. Trump, did so because they invested too much time worrying about what others were doing. These individuals over-invested their time on criticizing their peers, and over-invested their time trying to bring others down in their field.

The successful entrepreneurs didn't waste a second of their time on these negative efforts, and rather stayed 190% focused on accomplishing their own goals, dreams and objectives. I still can't believe that The Apprentice taught me this nearly a decade ago.

From that day forward  I  made the decision for the rest of my life to stay entirely focused on accomplishing my goals and dreams, and ignore haters or criticizing others at all costs. It's unproductive and a waste of time.....and we all know time is $$$$$$.

Conclusion:

Anything great in life that you want to accomplish will attract both multipliers and haters. Do not waste any of your precious time worrying about haters. Don't let haters slow you down, or get in your way. Just set high sales targets and work tirelessly to achieve them. When you attract haters, take it as a compliment and move on.

And the next time someone starts to hate on you, send them this picture below:
