Sales is like growing vegetables.

Sales is like growing vegetables.

The first week back in the office has been great. I hope I am not the only one but on Monday, it felt like everything that happened in the first two weeks of December, before my break faded into a very distant memory. So distant, I could not remember a thing.

I have overcome that now and back in first gear and loving it. Very excited for 2024.

I tried something new on my first day of my holiday break. This was after I was inspired by a friend, who seems to be a natural when it comes to growing literally anything.

I have no track record when it comes to growing anything that you can eat but I was just so excited at the thought of being able to eat something right out of my own garden.

So, I spent time listening to my friend’s advice and absorbed everything I could.

I am not a procrastinator and can’t even try to procrastinate. So, I literally started my little project on day one of my staycation.

Project: My Own Vegetable & Herb Garden

Step 1: Plan and Prepare

You don't just pop some seeds in any soil, anywhere and hope they will grow.

I needed to get some grow bags which was easy.

The most important thing to do was to prepare the soil. Using my friend’s advice, I prepared the soil and then moved the soil into the grow bags.

Then I carefully planted the seeds in the magic soil, labelled them all, gave them a water.

The end result was some soil and labels and a vision.

Step 2: Nurture & Nurture Consistently

It is quite a costly exercise to start a vegetable garden and unfortunately if you do not nurture it, daily you will certainly not see the fruits of your labor.

Every morning, as soon as I woke up, you would find me staring at the soil looking for any sign of growth.

Well blow me dead, there is no better feeling when you see that seedling sprouting.

It's that same feeling when a prospect reaches out to you to discuss their requirements and want to work with you.

The more you nurture, stay disciplined and consistent, the more growth you see.

That is the truth.

I was over the moon by now, staring at my pride and joy.

Step 3: Step up your game.

Well very quickly I needed to move the rapidly growing plants into a raised vegetable garden. That needed more preparation which I could not wait to do, because I could not wait a minute longer for even bigger results.

It's like in sales when you have a win, you are super pumped to get the next win.

Very pleased with the results so far and the amazing vegetable boxes, I could not help myself and extended my produce range. 😊

Step 4: Put in the work.

It’s hard work.

Let me tell you that most days during my holiday I had a sore back, broken nails, and several other pains in muscles I never knew I had.

The broken nails did not stop me. The end game was to eat something right out of my own garden. That was my vision.

Start with the end in mind!

Step 5: Stay consistent and focused on the result.

The only way you achieve your goals is through consistency and discipline.

Keep at it.

Look at that beautiful butternut.

That's my win!

The same is true for most things in life but starting my vegetable garden got me ready for sales success in 2024.

I will let you know what the butternut tastes like, soon. ⭐
