SATURDAY MARCH 25, 2023 – FIELD TRIP TO THE MIDDLE CRETACEOUS EXHUMED OIL RESERVOIR IN TACOTALPA MUNICIPALITY, TABASCO, MEXICO.
SATURDAY MARCH 25, 2023
FIELD TRIP TO THE MIDDLE CRETACEOUS EXHUMED OIL RESERVOIR IN TACOTALPA MUNICIPALITY, TABASCO, MEXICO.
This field trip has the goal of a unique live experience to touch and explore an oil saturated coral reef reservoir exhumed by tectonic processes. It is a Middle Cretaceous bioclastic reef reservoir (Tamabra Formation) that exhibits different porosity types with abundant macrofauna (Rudist and Texicaprina Kugleri) like the ones found in hydrocarbon reservoirs in northern Mexico: (Faja de Oro and Poza Rica), and in southern Mexico: (Complejo Antonio J. Bermudez and other Cretaceous reservoirs). The reservoir rocks are saturated with weathered pliable oil.
In geological terms, the reservoir is located south of the Coastal Gulf Plain, close to the northern hillside of the Chiapas mountain range. The exhumation was possibly due to the reactivation of a saline intrusion during the third phase of the Wisconsian Glaciation (37000 – 16000 years) as a result of the deposition of the Pleistocene fluvial terraces. This is one of the many poorly studied saline structures in southern Tabasco.
These unique feature is located 85 Km. southeast of Villahermosa, Tabasco, Mexico.
The trip leader is Alfredo Aguilar Rodriguez.
Geologist Alfredo Aguilar Rodriguez has 44 years of experience in Mexico´s northern and southern regions. He has estimated that at least 120 billion barrels of petroleum have been generated by the Tithonian rocks (Pimienta Formation) in Mexico and has documented 340 surface hydrocarbon occurrences in Mexico. Aguilar has published a book entitled "GEOLOGÍA PETROLERA Y POSIBILIDADES PETROLÍFERAS EN EL ESTADO DE TABASCO" and is co-author of the book "LOS COLORES DE LA REGIÓN SUR". He has proposed to Pemex, the Comisión Nacional de Hidrocarburos and the Secretaría de Energía interesting new hydrocarbon exploration areas.
<<This field trip is recommended to drilling geologists, stratigraphers, biostratigraphers, cronostratigraphers, sedimentologists, petrophysicists, reservoir engineers and exploration geologists that wish to increase their professional competences and willing to remain hireable in a highly competitive work market. >> Alfredo Aguilar Rodriguez
The field trip cost is $350 USD (United States Dollar) per participant.
