Satyam Vadha
Speak the truth.
There was a thief in a town. Before he went out to steal every day, he would enter a temple and leave praying, "God, may I receive good fortune today."
A preacher used to deliver sermons in that temple hall every day. Sometimes the thief used to hear the stories and then leave for his work.
One day he was enlightened by a story the guru told and the next day he went to the hut where the preacher was and said, “Guruji! please teach me a mantra'.
He said, "Son! who are you?" he asked. He told the truth without flinching: “I am a Thief! I have been in this business since I was ten years old”
Preacher: Damn God! Shouldn't you do any other good job?
Thief: That is the only profession I know of right now. This is a business that I have been doing for 30 years to save my wife and children.
Preacher: Well, go. Since you speak the truth, I feel that you have some good qualities in you. Today, I will teach you the first mantra in the Vedas, which is taught to everyone. If followed, the mantra will work and perform some miracles.
Thief: Ok Guruji I will do the same.
Preacher: First mantra: 'Sathyam Vada' - literally, 'Speak the truth'
Thief: Swamy, this is a very easy spell. It is also easy to follow. The hands themselves do thieving business; It is not difficult to speak the truth,' he said.
The preacher smiled; He also took leave and left.
The thief went to his wife and told what had happened. She just smiled. What is this? It's like a story about a weaver monkey,' she said.
What is the story? He enquired.
A weaver wanted to keep a monkey and bought a monkey. It entwined every piece of cloth he had made into a thread. If you speak the truth like that, you will be caught before you steal."
The thief raised his Eyeball! Don't worry, the Guru will be there" he said and left.
When the night approached, he took the cheek-stick, the thread-gauge, the hammer, the ruler and the measuring thread.
Today, because there is magic teaching, he wanted to achieve a great feat with his hand in a big place, so he went to steal in the palace.
After midnight, coming around the palace wall, the king of the country also came in disguise with a lamp in hand. The ancient Kings usually come to the city in disguise in the middle of the night to catch the pulse of the people.
King: Wait, who's there?
Thief: Sir, I am a thief.
Raja: Ah, I am also a thief from the neighbouring country. I want money too. Shall I come with you? Just give half of the share
Thief: Very good. He said let's go.
The king took the thief directly to the treasury.
Both of them opened a big box. It contained three precious large ruby stones.
Thief: Today is our lucky day. One for you, one for me. Let us leave the third gemstone in this box itself for the King.
King: What? are you crazy? we are thieves? why leave a stake for the owner?
Thief: Dude! I agreed to give you half. Now whether I take this third gemstone or you take it, it will not be 50-50. And not only that, will not the king who has kept this in his treasury for so long be happy that one single stone was not stolen?

The king also agreed and said that he could return home now. Even when the thief said goodbye, the king continued to follow him to know where he lived.
The next day the court met.
King: An important announcement! Our spies have informed me that our palace treasury has been robbed.
Finance Minister: King! A while back we had a cabinet meeting. Even in that no one talked about it. Here, I will go and report right away.
He went to the treasury and found that only one ruby stone remained in the treasury box. Suddenly he became greedy and kept it wrapped around his waist.
He ran to the palace.
FINANCE MINISTER: O king, our spies are very skilled and royal loyalists. They were right. A box in the treasury is broken into and three gems are stolen.
King: Really? Didn't they leave a single stone unturned?
Finance Minister: Lord, do you think thieves are fools? to leave us a stone. Their business is to roll up everything
King: ok. I have received one more intelligence.
He summoned his guards
They came running and stood before the king and said, "Come and catch the thief at this address." But don't hurt him.
The guard rushed on horseback, caught the thief and brought him before the king.
Thief: Hail, King (trembles).
King: What happened last night? tell me.
Thief: Myself and another thief broke into your palace treasury and broke the box. It contained three precious stones.
I took one, gave one to another person who came with me. I have left the third gem for you. Here is the gem I picked up. (presents it reverently before the king)
King: Do you know who was the other thief who robbed along with you? He was not a thief. It was I who came in disguise and entered the treasury with you. Here is the ruby stone that you gave me as my portion (The king also places it with the first stone.) and he looked at his finance minister and said ‘Finance Minister, please return the third stone.
Finance Minister: King What the hell is this? Our family has been serving you for three generations. You gave me a degree of theft in a minute. This thief would have taken that stone as well, thieves know the tricks of the eye
King: Finance Minister! If you don't hand over that gemstone in a minute, I will have your dhoti pulled and searched. I will order your entire house to be searched.
Finance Minister (trembling): Lord! Forgive me, Greed blinded my eyes in half a minute. I stole it; He took it from his Dhoti’s knot, saying, "Here is that stone."
King: Who's there? (Guards are running); Throw this finance minister in jail.
Important Announcement: (All listen attentively); I am appointing this thief as the finance minister of our country from today. He deserves this position because he is more faithful and loyal to the king than all of you
All: Long live the new finance minister! long live; Long live King King!!
The new finance minister (the erstwhile thief) met the preacher the next day and confided in Gurunath the benefits of preaching the truth.
Preacher: Sathyam Vadha (speak the truth) is the main commandment of the Vedas. If you stick to it, nothing else is needed.
The next time we meet, I will teach you a different mantra, even higher - he said.
