🐴 School Horses: The OG Management Gurus 🐴
Have you ever noticed that school horses have personalities eerily similar to management and leadership styles? These equine legends are out here teaching us not just how to ride but also dropping some serious leadership lessons (and occasional sass) along the way. Let’s break it down:
The Overachiever
This horse knows its job, does the transitions before you ask, and makes you feel like an Olympian... until you realize they’re the one doing all the work.
Leadership Style: The micromanaging perfectionist. You look great, but they’re running the show behind the scenes.
The Lazy Genius
Won’t move faster than a shuffle unless there’s food involved. But when you really push, they’re shockingly talented—like “piaffe out of nowhere” talented.
Leadership Style: The reluctant innovator. Does the bare minimum but pulls out brilliance when it counts (or when bribed).
The “You’re Not the Boss of Me” Rebel
This horse questions everything. Go left? Nah, we’re going right. Trot? How about we canter instead?
Leadership Style: The disruptor. Frustrating but visionary, they push you to rethink your approach (and occasionally your sanity).
The Empath
Knows when you’ve had a bad day and will gently trot along while you cry into their mane. Absolute sweetheart.
Leadership Style: The supportive mentor. Always there to lift you up and make the ride (or job) feel a little easier.

The Wild Card
Will either give you the ride of your life or turn a trot circle into a rodeo. Every day is an adventure.
Leadership Style: The chaotic creative. Unpredictable, but man, do they keep things interesting.
The Grizzled Veteran
Knows all the tricks and won’t fall for any of yours. Steady, reliable, and borderline unflappable—unless there’s a plastic bag in the corner.
Leadership Style: The seasoned exec. Always calm under pressure… until someone moves their stapler.
The Class Clown
Trips over their own feet, spooks at imaginary monsters, and makes you laugh when you least expect it.
Leadership Style: The charismatic leader. Not the most polished, but their energy and charm keep the team going.
Let’s face it: the barn is just a corporate office with hay. The next time you’re in a meeting, think about which “school horse” you’re working with—just try not to giggle too loudly.

1moI'm reporting this post as absurdly funny and insightful to LinkedIn. My daughter the equestrian concurs. :-)
Hmm, I identified a little with all of them. But I would say I'm primarily the empath

1moYou've depicted them well, Siobhan! Having been led by a "Grizzled Veteran", I've come to realize the value of a leader who is calm under pressure - even if that means the occasional obsession over formatting..

1moVery succinctly captured. I can picture all the horses I’ve ridden.…Personality quirks aside, don’t mind admitting that had super personalities, and a very high level of intelligence. Sorted creatures, most of the time. So much to learn from them :)
