Self curating the workplace, like never before
At one point there were no machines, and then humans went to work with machines. Now we are (in a wide range of industries and roles) able to bring machines to us.
This is a time like no other, where we have the luxury to mix culture and technology, artisanal-customized practices and traditions with state of art devices, to get the comfort and results each of us prefer.
Take for instance my work space and style that’s curated to my preferences.
I truly believe in leveraging any new device/ tools that technology has to offer to make my life easy. You see me surrounded by devices that enable me.
You also see me apply a healthy habit of sitting on the floor that keeps me true to my roots. Grounded. (pun intended).
Right from when I was a child, it has been a family mealtime tradition to sit on the floor and eat. Habits die hard and why should they, if they are healthy? As a yoga practitioner, I know the many benefits of sitting on the floor and now those benefits are not restricted to my daily practice. I’m able to bring them to work.
I found a desk that worked well 1. ergonomically, for me, 2. to my preference of being made from sustainable material (wood) and 3. at a price I liked.
The black coffee I made to my preference, in my kitchen and the comfy clothing, are neither state of art nor connected to where I come from. I’ve picked these in my journey to where I am, making me who I am.
Keeping it real - I am no batman!
Settling into a new model of working wasn’t easy. I miss meeting my colleagues everyday and there are times I miss the chance to wear my formal clothes. Over the last few months, I’ve gotten better at this. I have created rules, rituals and rhythm that work for me.
I know the artisan in me is far from perfect. It's important to continue to evolve and work on our craft. But during tough times, it’s first important to look at the bright side and ‘choose happiness’
P.S. This short read is a departure from the series I’ve been writing the last few weeks. This may not be about animals but it’s certainly about evolution, only of a different kind.

4yGood post Madhurya.. Your curated workplace- a mindful way of creating one space that helps you continue to add value at work combined with your favorites- sitting on the floor(kind of yoga ) with a cup of black coffee. For me, this is #empathy understanding what you really need and customizing it, even though life may throw many choices- standing workstation, ergonomic chair etc.. Choosing Happiness is key. Thanks for the reminder !!
