Self-Development and Contribution: Are You Maximizing Both?
I want to introduce the two key parameters it presents: self-development and contribution. Rate yourself on a scale of zero to ten in these two areas: self-development and contribution. What would your score be? If you’re a leader, try this exercise with your team as well — note the results and strive to ensure that everyone excels in these two areas.
Self-development is about loving yourself, and contribution is about loving others. Creating an environment where people pursue both self-development and contribution fosters a highly healthy and sustainably growing workplace.
A sustainable environment is fertile ground for innovation. If there’s no room in the company for people to develop themselves and feel safe to contribute, they’ll spend more time dealing with internal challenges rather than focusing on external threats, making the company less capable of facing outside dangers.
The best way to grow in self-development and contribution is by taking a stand. Fill the gaps — step into areas and processes that need support. Failing to take a stand invites chaos.
