Separate Roads
I never thought when I wrote an article using people passing away as the subject matter to highlight the need for objective research that I'd be hit by a family bereavement the same week. Life, eh? The king of cruel irony.
My younger brother Gavin died. We weren't close and hadn't spoken for over ten years. But he was my brother and we shared a room growing up for almost 15 years. He wasn't a bad man by any means. He had a good heart and loved his sons very much. He just chose a different life path to the one the other members of our family wanted to walk and that meant we travelled separate roads. That said, there is no doubt whatsoever that I could have been a better brother to him, and that's a cross I'll have to bear going forward.
I thought it only right to mark his passing with a final act that I know his heart would approve of and support. An act that would allow people to know his name and let his legacy resonate a little louder and live a little longer in this world. An act that would add additional value to his life and allow him to leave the planet knowing his existence mattered and he is still helping people who really need his help.
So I know this forum is for business and I'm sure I'll get a few trolls letting me know this. And that's ok, fill your boots. But I also know that a huge amount of people I work with are compassionate, kind and thoughtful people and as such I'm asking my network to help us remember my brother in a positive light by helping those who require our help.
Rest in peace brother. I'm truly sorry I wasn't a better sibling to you. You had a heart of gold and that's how I'll remember you.
Please feel free to donate and please share.
I'm also now dedicating the article to his memory. It's a nice line in the digital sand for me to remember him by and a fitting subject if ever there was one.

3yWhat a powerful and honest take, on a deeply personal account. Life has a habit of teaching us, through the power of irony 🙏🏼

4yDavid, I’m terribly sorry to read of your loss old friend but I’m sure your brother, will be as touched as I am, at the words you have written for him and also proud of the article you scripted earlier, which you have kindly dedicated to him. Many of us travel different paths but that doesn’t necessarily mean we lose love for one another. Isn’t it true anyway, that all paths end at the same place, just some sooner than others. Take care chum
