Series: The Importance of Cash in Security Operations

Part I: Understanding the Role of Cash in Emergency Preparedness

With the ongoing global conflicts, particularly in the regions where we operate—Ukraine, Gaza, Lebanon—evacuations present significant logistical challenges. These operations, including securing vessels and fulfilling security requirements, often demand cash in advance. In Lebanon, unless providers have immediate access to funds or are already prepared for such scenarios, any delay can become a matter of life and death.

Many small companies struggle to secure contracts during emergencies or large-scale events due to a lack of necessary resources and upfront capital to support operations before they commence. End clients, along with international security firms, typically require providers who can initiate and fund the process while responding swiftly to evolving ground conditions. This often necessitates having immediate cash reserves and the financial stability to accommodate payment terms, as invoices are typically settled 30 to 60 days after service delivery.

What is the importance of Cash in security operations?

  • Cash offers businesses a unique level of control and flexibility that digital payments often can't match. While electronic transactions may experience delays or technical issues, cash ensures swift and dependable transactions.
  • In regions with limited banking infrastructure or unreliable internet, cash remains the most universally accessible form of payment. This is especially valuable for businesses operating in countries where electronic payments are unavailable or complicated to navigate.
  • Additionally, maintaining adequate cash reserves enhances client confidence. Clients are more likely to choose a company with strong cash reserves and financial stability, as these companies can commence operations without concerns over prepayment.

Having strong cash management practices can be a game changer in security operations. How do you prepare for financial demands during emergencies?
