Seriously, You Don't Need Anymore Marketing Advice. Here's Why...
Here's a true story from just last week that is a microcosm of how so many people, especially business owners and marketers, think:
After giving a 60 minute presentation on Digital Marketing and They Ask You Answer, an audience member emailed me and said:
This was amazing! Tell me, what are your top 10 tips for growing my business?
My response:
"I already gave you way more than 10 tips in my presentation. The book will give you a few hundred more. You have all you need, now it's time to do the work."
And that about sums up the world of business and marketing my friends.
Fact is, 90% of what we "should" be doing in marketing is cut and dry. There are no secrets. Heck, I truly believe if a company just reads Storybrand and They Ask You Answer they have all they need, and certainly enough work, to keep their marketing departments busy for the next two years while dominating their space in the process.
But that's not what so many do.
Instead, so many of us are professional "info-vors"-- we consume and consume and consume. Yet we don't take the time to do and apply.
Are there exceptions? Absolutely.
But as a whole, too many would rather check the box of "look what I recently learned" versus "looked what I recently applied."
As you know, the two statements mark very, very different outcomes my friends.
My point?
For 99% of us, I honestly believe we don't need to read another book.
We don't need more tips.
We don't need to see what others in our space have done.
Instead, let's roll up our sleeves and start doing what we've known we should be doing the whole time.
It's only then will the real "learning" begin...

Quick Notes:
- Good news on the in-person events space my friends. I had an in-person in Florida last week and have another this week in Louisville. Sure, not everyone is ready to meet in person yet, but make no mistake, many are, and the in-person events space is on its way to recovery.
- Axiom recently recognized my newest book, The Visual Sale, with a Bronze metal for Top Sales Books of 2021. Thanks to all those persons that have read it and especially to those who already are applying it. You're awesome!

3yBrother Marcus I'm delighted to read this line " I truly believe if a company just reads Storybrand and They Ask You Answer they have all they need, and certainly enough work." I bet the ranch on these two books a few years ago, after Kenda told me about StoryBrand in a CMA call. This is what I teach and share with people NON STOP ;-) And as we apply it in our own company it keeps us growing and my head on track. Thanks!

3yWe don’t need to read anymore leadership books either. We just need to apply what we know on a consistent basis. Good advice Marcus Sheridan.

3yI couldn’t agree any more with all of this. Sometimes taking in information is a form of procrastination. I meet with some people to answer their questions and I know they’re going to go DO. Others you can tell are just collecting info to get dusty in their minds and will never take action. Action > everything else. Marcus Sheridan

3yPhew 😅 so glad you said this out loud Marcus, only yesterday I was having the conversation about training. “What will we get back?” Subtext I want return of investment. My response “I can show you how and help you put the learning into practice but your team have to do the work” 🙌🏼🙏🏼
