Setting 2025 Goals (That Don't Make You Want to Roll Your Eyes)

Setting 2025 Goals (That Don't Make You Want to Roll Your Eyes)

"Success is the sum of small efforts repeated day in and day out." – Robert Collier (who probably didn't hit snooze five times this morning)

Food for Thought:

Ah, New Year's resolutions—those well-intentioned promises we make to ourselves after too much holiday cheese and a burst of midnight optimism. You know the ones: "This year, I'll become a morning person!" (Narrator: They did not become a morning person.)

But here's the thing about 2025: It doesn't need another list of abandoned gym memberships and untouched meditation apps. What it needs is a game plan that actually works with your real life—not the life of that Instagram influencer who meal preps in a perfectly organized kitchen while simultaneously running a marathon.

Let's talk about setting intentions - goals that don't make you want to hide under your blankets until 2026.

Why Most New Year's Goals Fail

Let's be honest about what doesn't work:

  • Making promises to your "future self" who's somehow way more disciplined
  • Setting goals that require you to become an entirely different person overnight
  • Creating to-do lists longer than a Starbucks order
  • Expecting transformation without considering your actual habits (like your deep relationship with the snooze button)

5 Steps to Goals You'll Actually Achieve

1. Get real about 2024. Time for reflection.

- What actually worked?

- What didn't?

- What surprised you? (Like becoming the unexpected Excel guru of your team)

2. Write Your 2025 Mission Statement.  And do it without all of the corporate or brainiac-type lingo.

- Instead of, "Optimize cross-functional synergies while leveraging core competencies," try "In 2025, I want to do work I'm proud of, take care of myself, and have time for the people I love."

3. Pick 3 priority goals and make them specific. Think:

- "Move my body three times a week without hating life"

- "Learn that thing I've been pretending I already know in meetings"

- "See my friends' faces in real life, not just on WhatsApp"

[Of course, you can have other goals—but these three are your non-negotiables, your North Stars for 2025. They're the ones that get your prime energy and attention.]

4. Break them down into smaller goals. Make meeting goals seem less insurmountable and more doable.

5. Track your progress without obsessing.

- Monthly check-ins

- Celebrate small wins

- Adjust when needed (because life happens)

A Note About Reality

Your goals shouldn't require:

  • Becoming a morning person if you're not one
  • To sign up for marathons when you hate running
  • Transforming into a completely different human

Here's to Keeping It Real

The secret to 2025 isn't about becoming a new you—it's about being a slightly better version of the perfectly good you that already exists.

Remember: Progress isn't about perfection. It's about taking small steps forward, even if some of those steps involve stumbling around in your fuzzy socks while trying to find your water bottle.

Here's to making 2025 a year of actual, achievable progress—one realistic goal at a time!
