Your 2024 Business Plan: A Step-by-Step Guide for New Virtual Assistants

Your 2024 Business Plan: A Step-by-Step Guide for New Virtual Assistants

Welcome to the VA Insider Newsletter, the place to be for tips and tools to build a thriving Virtual Assistant business.

Q1 of 2024 is more than just a new beginning. It's a chance to build a more robust, efficient, and rewarding VA business.

By focusing on operational efficiency, client relationships, and professional development, you're setting the stage for a year of growth, satisfaction, and success.

Here are 3 steps to help you make this year our best one yet:

1. Streamline your business.

Why it matters: Your time is limited, especially as a solo-VA. Streamlining your business means less time spent on administrative tasks and more time for client work and direct income.

Action steps:

  • Audit your digital tools: Evaluate the tools you're currently using. Are they meeting your needs? Could a different tool save you time or offer better functionality? 🔥 Pro tip: Get rid of tools that no longer serve you. This year, I ditched Notion. While I love the tool in general, I was spending more time organizing my to-do list, rather than tackling my list. Now I use pen and paper to jot down tasks.
  • Automate repetitive tasks: Identify tasks that can be automated, such as invoicing or social media posts. Automation tools can free up hours every week. 🔥 Pro tip: Most social media sites (including LinkedIn) allow you to schedule posts. Spend an hour or two setting up posts to advertise your business in January 2024. Then...don't worry about posting for the first month of the year!
  • Optimize your space: Organize your physical workspace and clear your mind. A well-organized workspace can significantly reduce stress and improve productivity. 🔥 Pro tip: Say goodbye to working from the couch in 2024 and aim for a space that you can mentally divide between "rest time" and "work time."

2. Revisit your relationship with clients.

Why it matters: Strong client relationships lead to repeat business and referrals. Happy clients are happy to refer you to their network.

Action steps:

  • Schedule client check-ins: Schedule regular check-ins with clients to discuss their needs and your performance. This proactive approach can strengthen relationships and build a rapport with clients. 🔥 Pro-tip: Regular video check-ins are a great way to build strong relationships, fast. "Face-to-face" conversations, even virtually, beat emails any day!
  • Ask for referrals: If you've never asked for a referral before, don't sweat it. It sounds scarier than it is, but January is the perfect time to let clients know that you're taking on more work! 🔥 Pro-tip, use my referral script to help you get more work.

3. Prioritize continuous learning.

Why it matters: The VA industry is constantly evolving. Keeping your skills sharp and staying abreast of industry trends ensures you remain competitive and valuable to your clients.

Action steps:

  • Identify skill gaps: Reflect on areas where your skills could be improved. This could be learning a new tool, enhancing your current skills, or mastering an in-demand niche. 🔥 Pro-tip: Check out my VA Business Blueprint for everything you need to build a thriving business.
  • Set aside time to learn: Dedicate some time each week to learning something new. This could involve online courses, YouTube videos, or joining an online VA community. 🔥 Pro-tip: Watch a YouTube video about a specific skill over your morning cup of coffee, or play a video during lunch for your own "lunch and learn."
  • Apply new skills: Implement new skills or knowledge in your business practices. Not only does this improve your service offerings, but it also keeps your work exciting and challenging. 🔥 Pro-tip: Upselling services can be a great way to make more money with your current clients, AND apply new learnings to your business.
