Seven Years, 2,082 workouts, 5,500 Kilometers, 1,898 hours and Life’s Biggest Transitions

Fitness has been my anchor ⚓ through every twist, every high, every challenge. Over the past seven years, my Garmin Fenix 5S has tracked more than my kilometers—it’s captured a journey of growth through fatherhood, international moves, and the quiet dedication that keeps me grounded. This data tells a story, not just of fitness, but of resilience, adaptability, and the profound impact of showing up every single day. Each year reveals a new layer, reminding me that fitness isn’t just a personal journey; it’s a foundation that allows me to bring my best self to my family and my work.

1. 2019: A Year of New Life 👶, New Routines, and Fitting in Fitness

Becoming a dad in 2019 changed everything. That year, training became my way of recharging and recalibrating 🔋. With a newborn at home, I didn’t have the luxury of long sessions or meticulous routines. I still managed to log 239 workouts and cover 290 kilometers—almost like running the distance from London to Paris 🏃♂️💨 while juggling late-night feedings and life on a whole new schedule. Those hours (229, to be exact) weren’t just workouts; they were moments to collect myself, to fill my own cup 🧘♂️ so I could give more to my family. The numbers may have been lower that year, but each session was packed with intention, reminding me that caring for myself was the best way to show up fully for my family.

2. 2022: Moving Across Continents 🌎 and Reinventing My Routine

When we moved to Canada 🍁 in October 2022, everything changed. With our gym equipment still on a ship somewhere 🛳️, my workouts had to take a new form. I relied on TRX bands, making do in our temporary home as we waited for our belongings to arrive. For five months, I logged 276 activities, covering 775 kilometers. That’s about the distance from Toronto to Quebec City—except I wasn’t journeying on a plane or train but through persistence, consistency, and adaptability 💪. Each workout was a small victory, a way of finding stability in a new country and of reconnecting with myself amid the transitions. This adaptability taught me that fitness isn’t just about having the perfect setup; it’s about finding a way to keep moving, no matter where life takes you.

3. The Power of Habit Stacking 🔄: Building Physical and Mental Resilience

Fitness for me has always been more than just physical; it’s my space for growth 📈. Early on, I learned to “habit stack” by pairing workouts with something mentally enriching 🧠📚. While I’m running or lifting, I’m also learning—ditching music for podcasts and audiobooks that sharpen my mind as I strengthen my body. Each session becomes a dual workout, with miles covered and new ideas explored 🌱. Over these years, I’ve logged nearly 1,900 hours training—equivalent to watching over 1,200 movies 🎥, or a staggering 79 full days spent getting stronger, mentally and physically. This commitment has given me more than fitness; it’s built resilience, widened my perspectives, and deepened my curiosity 🔍.

4. 2021: Pushing Boundaries and Finding New Strengths 🏆

2021 was a standout year. With 448 activities and a personal record of 1,603 kilometers, I covered almost the distance from Los Angeles to Denver 🏞️. This wasn’t just a year of peak physical performance; it was a time of self-discovery, where I tested my limits and saw what I was truly capable of. In 399 hours of training that year, I burned 144,088 calories—enough energy to fuel over 300 marathons 🏅. This year showed me that even amid life’s demands, I could carve out time to prioritize my goals and reach new heights. It was a reminder that my capacity to grow is only limited by my willingness to show up and push past the limits I set for myself.

5. The Constant of Consistency 🔄: Small Steps, Big Impact 🌄

Over these seven years, each kilometer, each rep, each sweat-drenched hour has added up to something bigger than the numbers themselves. I’ve logged a total of 5,521 kilometers, enough to traverse the entire length of Canada, from Vancouver to St. John’s 🗺️. Every step, every lift, every beat has fueled over 642,000 calories burned—enough to power a small city block for a day 🔥. These aren’t just statistics; they’re symbols of a commitment that has become second nature, ingrained in the fabric of my life. The average of 788 kilometers each year and 297 activities may ebb and flow, but they represent the steady heartbeat of a lifelong commitment.

6. Fitness as a Foundation for Life and Work 💼🏡

Beyond the data, the hours, and the miles, training has shaped who I am outside the gym. Starting my day with movement fills me with energy and clarity 💡. At work, I’m sharper, more engaged, and ready to take on whatever challenges come my way. At home, I’m a more present husband and father, bringing vitality and patience to my family. This foundation of fitness allows me to bring my best self into every role I play, and it’s something I’m grateful for each and every day 🙏.

The Journey Continues 🚀: A Lifelong Pursuit of Growth

These seven years have shown me that fitness is far more than a routine—it’s a constant source of strength, resilience, and balance 🌱. My Garmin Fenix 5S has been there, tracking not just the distance but the dedication. Through fatherhood, cross-continental moves, and every challenge in between, fitness has been my companion. Here’s to the miles yet to be covered, the lessons yet to be learned, and the unwavering journey of becoming stronger, both inside and out 💪❤️. If you've not started your fitness journey I hope this post inspires you to and if you're on a fitness journey may this be your signal that you're not alone.
