Today, we’re diving into one of the most exciting shifts happening in the world of mobility—autonomous buses.
While the likes of Waymo and Cruise have gained the spotlight in the autonomous vehicle space by offering rides in self-driving cars in city centers, it should be obvious that robotaxis are NOT the future of public transit.
Let’s face it: robotaxis don’t solve a critical problem. In most cities, ride-hailing services are readily available, and people are not asking for them to be replaced by autonomous vehicles.
On the other hand, autonomous buses offer a transformative solution to multiple challenges that we are all facing today.
The Global Transit Challenge
Around the world, cities and nations are confronting significant and growing shortages of professional drivers, increased traffic congestion, and reduced transportation equity. As these problems escalate, the demand for more sustainable, cost-effective, and efficient transportation continues to rise.
🚍 Enter autonomous buses—designed deliberately to address these challenges. They go beyond the idea of replacing taxis or private rides; they have the potential to revolutionize public transit by providing an effective alternative to traffic jams and overcrowded commuter systems.
Why Autonomous Buses?
Autonomous buses offer a solution to a range of urban problems:
👩🚫 Driver Shortages: Many cities are experiencing difficulties recruiting and retaining public transit drivers. Autonomous buses ease this challenge by operating with no driver, allowing cities to manage their fleets at optimum frequency levels.
🚗🚙 Traffic Congestion: As cities grow, roads become more crowded with passenger cars, and city centers become choked with the requisite parking solutions for those vehicles. Autonomous buses can help alleviate congestion by offering more reliable and frequent service, convincing commuters to switch their mode of transportation.
🌍🌱 Sustainability: By replacing traditional gas-powered vehicles, autonomous buses are powered by green energy, helping to reduce carbon emissions and support cleaner cities.
🏙️💸 Accessibility & Affordability: Autonomous buses can create a more inclusive mobility solution, offering affordable and easily accessible transportation for all citizens, especially in underserved areas.
How Imagry Is Paving the Way
At Imagry | Autonomous Driving , we’re committed to developing the most cutting-edge technology for autonomous mobility. Our HD-mapless L4 autonomous driving solution is designed for urban buses and shuttles, allowing them to operate efficiently and safely on public roads and within operational zones. By leveraging AI-powered deep learning combined with state-of-the-art camera systems, we are transforming public transit to make it smarter, safer, and more sustainable.
We recognize the growing global demand for clean-energy buses and shuttles that not only improve service by increasing frequency and hours of operation but also address the critical shortage of professional drivers—a challenge that grows by 1% every year, with an estimated current global shortfall of 15%.
Unlike most autonomous shuttle solutions that are limited to speeds of 20 km/h, Imagry’s vehicles can travel up to 50 km/h, matching the posted speed limits for urban roads. This capability is crucial for maintaining traffic flow, ensuring passenger satisfaction, and fostering acceptance of autonomous vehicles in real-world environments.
We are excited to continue advancing the future of autonomous public transit, helping cities implement smarter mobility solutions that are safe, efficient, and environmentally friendly.

We at Imagry are proud to be at the forefront of this transportation revolution.
Video Spotlight
🎥 The video above highlights our autonomous driving platform, featuring both passenger cars and buses on public roads. Footage of the passenger cars was filmed in Phoenix, Arizona and downtown Haifa, Israel, showcasing various driving challenges such as unprotected left turns, 4-way stops, road construction, merging into roundabouts, and yielding to pedestrians. The autonomous bus footage was captured at the largest medical center in the Middle East.
By leveraging AI-powered deep learning and advanced camera technology, we are transforming private and public transportation, making it smarter, safer, and more sustainable.
