Shining the Light on Others Reflects on You too

Shining the Light on Others Reflects on You too

While I can't say I've been doing it ALL of March, I started a series of posts here on Wonderful Women I know and genuinely appreciate.

It's been so great to feature these fantastic females and share what I admire about them over the past few weeks.

I've observed some very interesting outcomes as a result.

1. People react differently when you're saying kind things about others. There's been a LOT more engagement, views, and comments than on "typical" posts.

2. It seems as though people are actually looking forward to seeing who's next.

3. The people who the light shines on are grateful, appreciative, and sometimes return the favor. It's always nice to brighten someone's day!

4. It's super easy to say nice and meaningful things about people you like.

5. On a personal note, I wish I took more pictures when out and about. Photos of the person highlighted with me perform better than just photos of the person discussed.

6. The phrase "people don't care how much you know until they know how much you care" has shown up for me a bunch over the past few weeks. Showing you care for others is so easy!

7. People are always looking for interesting folks to follow and connect with. Showcasing worthy folks helps everyone.

I've done a #followfriday post for years on LinkedIn, but it hasn't been as focused as this month. There is something about having a theme that lends to consistency. Making posts that give folks a reason to care really works. Doing so at approximately the same time every day is great for keeping a nice rhythm.

I'm curious who would you shout out if you were going to celebrate Wonderful Women? Feel encouraged to share them below.

Side comment, this whole thing has me thinking about how much I really appreciate the wonderful women in my world. It's got me thinking about shifting my core focus to working with women leaders and maybe some heart led men. That would be super fun!

Good observation, Terry. I know in my networking, it feels so much more genuine to refer and brag about someone in my network than it is to promote myself. Not surprisingly, the one I'm bragging to also seems to prefer it.

Love your observations Terry. I will think about how I can shed more in light on others in the disability community in the coming months. Thanks!

This resonates, as I’m always preaching karma and how nothing dark comes from doing good in shining light on others 🤩

Great takeaways you shared! I had a boss years ago that always used to say “Megan people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” I used to cringe- 😬 years later in my leadership journey, I start teaching book studies and low and behold- there it is in the 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership! Ha and now it’s a staple I share with others.
