Should Architects Specialize?

Should Architects Specialize?

Have you ever considered specializing in a niche market but worried about the consequences?

Let me put your concerns to rest.

In 1915 an Educational Psychologist by the name of Edward Thorndike made an interesting discovery.

His colleagues set up an experiment that went something like this:

Participants were shown photographs of political candidates and then asked to rate them on traits like trustworthiness, competence, and leadership ability.

When they tallied the results they found that the candidates who were rated as being more attractive were also perceived as being more trustworthy and competent (even though the participants knew nothing about the candidate's personalities).

It was as if their physical characteristics helped promote their abilities in other areas of life… although there was no evidence to back this up.

This cognitive bias has been labeled the “Halo Effect” and it describes the phenomenon whereby our overall impression of a person influences how we feel and think about their character.

But what does this have to do with Architects specializing in a niche market?

Simply put, when you excel in one market you’ll be offered opportunities in other markets.

Why?

Because of the “Halo Effect”.

Clients will perceive your niche success as a sign of your overall character and abilities!

This is exactly what happened to us at Blue Turtle Consulting.

Although we specialize in helping Architects and Designers write successful fee proposals, our success in this market has led to job opportunities in other markets including presenting at the annual convention for the Society of Scooters and Mobility in Australia!

Yes, that’s right!

Success breeds success.

So don’t spread yourself thin and be a jack of all trades… and master of none!

Instead, join us at the Fee Proposal Workshop.

We’ll show you how to choose a target market and then become the number one choice in that market.

Once you own one market you’ll be invited to participate in other markets.

So what are you waiting for?

Click here and schedule a call with me: Fee Proposal Workshop

See you on the inside where we’ll show you other Architects who’ve owned their niche and then went on to work in other markets.
