Should We Cruise the Norwegian Fjords? The Answer is...

The other day, I hosted the "Cruising Scandinavia" group Zoom call, as part of the newly launched "My Cruise Connoisseur" consulting service. It was such an exciting call, and I was so pleased to be able to share everything I know and have experienced, while cruising in Scandinavia, the Norwegian Fjords and Svalbard.

As a former Onboard Future Cruise Sales Director, I had the pleasure of booking hundreds of cruisers on a Norwegian Fjord cruise. Each booking completed, made me a bit more envious, as this destination is one of my favorites and I can't wait to visit it again soon.

Selecting the Itinerary:

Look for itineraries specifically focused on the Norwegian fjords. These cruises typically depart from ports like Bergen, Oslo, or Copenhagen and include stops at iconic fjords such as Geirangerfjord, Sognefjord, and Hardangerfjord.

Pay attention to the duration of the cruise and the ports of call included in the itinerary. Longer cruises may offer a more comprehensive exploration of the fjords and additional stops in coastal towns and cities.

Exploring the Fjords:

Norwegian fjords are the main highlight of your cruise. Research the fjords you'll visit and learn about their unique features, such as towering cliffs, cascading waterfalls, and picturesque villages.

Packing Essentials:

Pack appropriate clothing for varying weather conditions, including layers, waterproof outerwear, and sturdy walking shoes for exploring onshore. Don't forget to get powerful binoculars and your camera, to capture the stunning landscapes.

Timing Your Cruise:

Norwegian fjord cruises are most popular during the summer months (June to August) when the weather is mild, and daylight hours are long. However, shoulder seasons (late spring and early fall) can offer fewer crowds and lower prices. Consider any specific events or festivals happening in the region during your cruise dates, as these can enhance your experience.

Booking Considerations:

Consider adding pre- or post-cruise stays in embarkation cities like Bergen, Oslo or Iceland to explore their attractions and immerse yourself in Norwegian and Viking culture.

So, should you book a Norwegian Fjords Cruise? The answer is YES!!!

By considering these factors and planning ahead, you can make the most of your cruise to the Norwegian fjords and create unforgettable memories amidst the stunning natural beauty of this remarkable region.
