Silence is a foggy morning

Silence is a foggy morning

This text was finalized while listening to this music.

After three beautiful months and six programs on the road, it’s time to rest and reflect on what I’ve learned from these unique moments. My first conclusion is clear: the more I listen to others, the more I appreciate the power of silence, especially within myself.

Silence is intriguing.

It’s like a foggy morning for me, where I need to give time to see the outcome of the day. I must be patient because the fog can linger for a long time.

Throughout our existence, humans have been trying to understand silence. Some people need to get away—into the desert, the mountains, or the deep ocean—to find silence.

Silence is hard to find. It requires effort; it requires silence.

Over the last few months of my life, I’ve been on the road, as expected at this time of year. Walking with many different people with different needs and expectations, I have practiced creating a space where silence could emerge naturally without being pushed or forced, where silence could be appreciated and welcomed.

But why do we need Silence?

Silence is like a door you don’t have to open. You can walk in, out, or stay in between rooms. You stay at the door of silence, and then you can decide which way to go. It’s not easy because seconds can turn into very long minutes, weeks, months, or years, but it’s extraordinary to stay under the doorframe of Silence.

When you dare to dive into deep Silence, sooner or later, you will end up looking at yourself in a (un)comfortable way. What is there? What is working? What is not working?

Your desires, struggles, and hopes swim in profound Silence, and If you are outside in nature, you can add an additional layer: The wind.

Since biblical times, we have known that the wind carries powerful words. Silence is filled with things and emotions that we often have a hard time understanding.

Silence is an adviser, a leader, and a follower. It is a way to say what you cannot say, a way to say what you don’t want to say, and a way to say what you want to say. Your silence always speaks.

Silence brings answers, many answers, but it can also bring doubts, many doubts. Sometimes, it is better to stay silent rather than win an argument. Silence can show us our capacity or incapacity.

We reached the middle of the year just a few days ago, so I’ll leave you with a suggestion and a challenge—maybe a tough challenge. Why don’t you take a couple of hours for yourself in the coming days and go for a walk? Don’t take your headphones or any distractions with you except your Silence.

Find a place where you can think that you are not thinking and see what happens. See what happens inside.

Until next month, let’s keep walking 🙂

What have we been doing?

Podcast

This month, we had the pleasure of hosting Darco Cazin in our podcast. Among several interesting ideas he shared, in his introduction, he said he likes to present himself by stating that he drinks his coffee black.

I also love my coffee black so I can truly appreciate all the flavors and aromas of the coffee, and it is a daily ritual I truly enjoy. But Darco explained that this has a deeper meaning for him- he loves the essence of things and sticks to the essential, a bit like a minimalist approach to life.

Of course, one can say that Darco lives in beautiful quaint Pontressina nestled in a valley of the Alps, that he designs and builds mountain bike trails- his passion- and so he has all the reasons to enjoy the essence of his life. But I believe that no matter how fortunate he was to have been born in his specific circumstances, he has chosen to live it on his own terms; he chose to drink his coffee black, and he didn’t get dazzled by all the flashy, sumptuous things you can put in your coffee – or to bring to your life. And that, I believe, has made all the difference. So grab a nice cup of black coffee and listen to our podcast- you won’t be disappointed.

Darco is the owner of Allegra, which has been shaping your region with a wide range of mountain bike, trail, and experience options internationally since 2003.
