Six Months with the Polestar 2. It’s Spectacular!
Six months with my Polestar 2 Dual Motor and here are my thoughts.
First of all, how I decided on this car!
I knew I was going electric. My previous car; the Volvo XC60, which I absolutely loved, was plug-in hybrid, but it only got about 30-40 km on battery and then it switched back to gas.
I didn’t think I could love a car more than the Volvo and truth be told, I was kinda bummed when the time came to trade it in.
By the way, why did I have to trade it in? Because that’s how I buy my cars. I work with Menachem Kolsky and every three years, I trade in my car and get a new one. It works for me for several reasons. Also, he’s great to work with.
Anyway, I knew I was going electric and of course, by default, the first option on the table was a Tesla. But I wasn’t going to buy the S, which is the Tesla that I’d want because the price here is obscene.
So the Model 3 was the Tesla option and, how do I say this nicely? I hate it. Hate the way it looks. Hate that everyone and their mother has one. And to me, it’s just meh on every level.
So Tesla was off the table.
I looked into some of these new Chinese electric cars, and everything I read screamed unreliable.
So I was basically looking at either a Volvo c40, which was a serious option, going nuts and getting a Model S for like $150k (!!!!!), or there was this new brand, Polestar. It used to be part of Volvo and then they went their separate ways.
I went to the Volvo showroom in Hertzliya, saw the C40, and then went next door to Polestar and saw the Polestar 2.
I went back to Volvo and then back to Polestar. I called my brother Doni who is a car guru (seriously, he’s like a walking car encyclopedia!) and asked him his opinion.
“Definitely, 100% go for the Polestar!”
That was his answer and so it was final.
Now which model? There is the basic single engine one with the farthest range but it is very underpowered, and then there is the performance model, which is sick fast and vey expensive.
The middle one, the dual motor had the speed, the range, and the price. It was decided.
What color?
Every single color this car comes in is 🔥! Seriously.

I thought of the blue one for a second but ultimately, I went with black. Safe choice and classy.
So I’ve had it for six months. The verdict?
I didn’t think it was possible but I like this car even more than the Volvo.
The things I love about it.
- It is stupid fast! 0-60 in like 4 and change. You cannot understand how fast that is till you feel it. Rachel Spinner, kindly confirm. 🤣
- It gets amazing range. 400 km on one charge. I drove from the Kineret back to Beit Shemesh and had about 30 km left on the battery.
- It charges super quickly. On a fast charger, I can go 0-100% in like 45 mins. At my house, I charge at night. 2-3 hours and I’m full.
- I love the looks. Not a day goes by without someone signaling to me to take down my window so they can ask me what this car is. It’s very subtle. There is no Polestar branding on it. Love it when I drive past someone and 9/10 times, I see them in my rear view mirror looking at the car trying to figure out what it is.
- It is super unique. There are less than 200 of them on the roads in Israel. It’s cute when I pass one on the road. We have a little cute thing going on, all us Polestar drivers. I saw one tonight and we waved at each other like we’re old friends and then had a whole conversation at the red light. The guy had the performance model. Also in black.
- The car is jam-packed with tech. It has autonomous mode. It’s not fully autonomous but it’s pretty great. The car runs Android. Not Android Auto, Android Automotive. Meaning, the car is like one big Android computer. In fact, at one point, I needed to connect a phone of mine to a computer. But I didn’t have a laptop with me. I connected it to the car and it recognized it as a computer. Super cool.
- The Polestar service is great. Really nice people. Really helpful.
- The trunk is HUGE! Like really huge. I fit three suitcases in there comfortably.
- The Polestar app is awesome. I can unlock the car, see the charging status, and even pre-heat or cool the car so when I get to it, it’s not insanely hot (or cold, on that one cold day throughout the year. 🤣)
- The interior is super sexy. It looks like a cockpit of a jet. Beautiful simplicity, elegant design, a huge screen, comfortable controls, and just overall, a perfect interior.
- The sound system is simply superb. I’m not an audiophile but this thing sounds magnificent. Simply magnificent.
- Just some other random features like the ability to open the trunk by waving your leg under the car if your hands are full, simple touch controls on the door to open it, the ability to open and start the car with your phone, the ease of operation with no On/Off button. You just get in and drive. Super cool.
I think I got all the good things.
The bad?
- Android.
Seriously. Android Automotive is half baked. It’s buggy and glitchy. It’s unfortunate because it has so much potential. I end up using Apple CarPlay. It’s just much more stable.
That’s it. Nothing else negative to say.
I love this car and I would recommend you buy it, but I kinda wanna keep it to myself. 🤣
No, but seriously. If you’re getting a new car and are all in on electric, get yourself a Polestar. It’s the closest thing I’ve seen to the perfect automobile.
Good job, Polestar. You killed it with this car!

1yNice post, thanks for sharing! Couldn’t agree more re: Tesla. Sadly the infrastructure in the UK is simply not ready for EVs unless you buy a Tesla, and I don’t want a Tesla. Polestar sounds like the way to go.

1ytotally agree re the Tesla 3 - very underwhelming - people buy it so they can have a Tesla (power of the brand, even the average models command a strong following) (ok and its super fast - but thats also not enough for me) in your research did you get any insight into the forthcoming Polestar 3? this looks like a dream but I fear it will be as expensive as the Tesla SUV here in Israel

1yHillel Fuld The question is if the company will ever become profitable and what happens if the company goes bankrupt. As you change your car every three years, I guess you are ok.

1yI preordered Volvo EX90, which is the next iteration of Polestar with the Volvo twist. Hoping it will be a good vehicle.

1yGreat article! It does look sharp. As a Volvo owner, I appreciate this. I’ve thought about buying the Polestar chip upgrade for our wagon :-)
