Skiing Equipment: What is the best layering system for technical outerwear?

Introduction

When your customers go skiing, they won’t just be throwing on your jackets and ski pants, they will also be thinking about what goes underneath them, too. Skiers have to think in terms of layers to keep warm, so they will be looking to popular winter outdoor clothing brands like Patagonia, Arc’teryx, The North Face, Helly Hansen, and Duluth Trading Company for extra insulation. But what layers do they need to think about most, and what is the best combination of clothing for a comfortable time on the slopes?

The Layers

The base layer is the one closest to the skiers’ skin and this one needs to consist of moisture-wicking, breathable fabrics like merino wool or synthetic blends featuring polyester or spandex. Bass layer items will be tight fitting to draw moisture away from the skin, and also long to provide lots of skin coverage, so long underwear pants and long-sleeve tops will be essential for keeping them as warm as possible.

For the insulating layer, they will be looking at a mid-to-heavyweight fleece jacket or pullover for warmth. The fleece can be a full-zip or quarter-zip type for quick and easy temperature regulation.

The outer layer needs to be waterproof, so this means a breathable jacket and pants.

Your customers will be looking for features like sealed seams, waterproof zippers, and adjustable cuffs and hems, and they’ll want to know that their ski wear allows moisture vapour to escape as well as blocking out the wind and rain.

In terms of accessories, they may want to go for a neck gaiter or balaclava to cover the face, insulated waterproof gloves or mittens for the hands, and warm, moisture-wicking socks, inside insulated, weatherproof boots.

So, the key to your customers’ comfort is having a base layer to wick moisture, an insulating middle layer for warmth, and an outer shell that keeps out the wind and rain. They can then adjust the layers based on the temperature wherever they happen to be skiing and how much effort they’re putting into each run. Juggling these variables will help your customers to maintain their ideal core body temperature, and stay warm, dry, and comfortable as they race around the slopes.

Our Skiwear

As a leading affordable ski jacket manufacturer, we take care of the top layer, and we’re dedicated to bringing your customers the latest in eye-catching and attractive designs. One of our latest and greatest additions is this ladies’ jacket...

Ladies Ski Jacket

This snowboard jacket is actually unisex so it will look great on both men and women.  It features two extra-large side pockets, and the design features professional laminated fabrics along with a thin layer of 60GSM synthetic padding. Snowboarders do appreciate a bit of extra cushioning for when they fall.

The fabric is 100% TPU laminated rip-stop polyester, which means it’s very durable compared to some natural fibres. To keep out moisture from snow and rain we coated it with an extra-strong water-repellent treatment that is also durable, so it won’t be worn away by repeated use.

Its waterproof rating is 15,000mm and it has a breathability level of 10,000g/m^2/24Hr, which means owners can be assured that sweat is going to be allowed to evaporate and pass through the fabric, which will keep them dry and comfortable.

As you can see from the image below, this jacket features adjustable stoppers so that the hood can be cinched up tight and the neckline secured against the elements. We used waterproof zippers in the middle of the front and other pockets and added some under-arm ventilation with zippered openings. Boardriders will really appreciate the ability to let off ‘a little extra steam’ via these!

The jacket has snow skirts on the inside to keep the snow out and thumb holes to keep the wrists warm and protected. We put a handy lift card pocket on the left sleeve so they won’t get lost and a Lycra-protected adjustable cuff for a nice tight fit. We made the side pockets extra-large to provide extra handy storage and fitted them with waterproof zippers to keep valuables safe and dry.

If you’re interested in finding out more about this jacket, the process is really simple. Get in touch with us, tell us your needs and we will give you a competitive quote based on the quantity. We will give you a visual sample and a sales sample so that you can check the quality, and if you decide to move forward a preproduction sample. Snow Pants

The perfect complement to our high-quality ski jackets, these snow pants are another great example of how stylish we can make women look on the slopes.

As you can see, these tough and attractive 100% polyester pants are roomy enough to accommodate the layering strategies that we mentioned above, and they feature the same kind of all-weather protection that you’ve come to expect. Waterproofing is courtesy of an extra durable spray-on moisture-repellent system with a rating of 15,000mm and an all-important breathability rating of 10,000g/m^2/24Hr, for excellent moisture dissipation.

They feature a convenient adjustable waist belt and zippered pockets, and the leg openings have been reinforced for extra durability, so they’re more resistant to abrasion.

3L Ski Jacket

The ‘L’ stands for layers! This three-layer ski jacket combines superior performance and quality for unmatched comfort and protection on the ski slopes.

It features a fixed hood, snow skirt, Lycra cuffs, fully taped seams and waterproof zippers for ultimate protection. It’s made from 42% recycled polyester, 58% Poly PD+DWR(C0) and has a TPU Milky Membrane, to deliver 15,000 mm waterproofing, and 15,000g breathability for warmth and comfort. There’s no topstitching on the body, which enhances the look. The neck back, inner pocket, bottom facing, hood facing, and even the eyelets are laser cut.

Green Ski Jacket

Back to jackets, and this one is a little different.

It’s a bright, two-tone contemporary look, that won’t fail to attract attention from fashion conscious customers. It has a 100% Polyester twill outer shell with an offset zip that makes room for a kangaroo-style pocket with a protective flap on the front. It’s TPU laminated, with a waterproof rating of 8000 and a breathability rating of 3000 as measured by the ASTM standard. The lining Fabric is 210T Polyester Taffeta, and the front and side pocket zippers are waterproof, with regular nylon zippers on the sides and sleeve pockets. As it’s an anorak, the hood is attached and we have added a stiffened edge that preserves its shape. The Anorak style is a perennial favourite that is very popular in many markets.

One for Younger Skiers

If the whole family is going to go skiing together, then the whole family is going to need clothing that’s up to the mark. Parents want to know that their kids look good too and are going to stay warm and dry on the slopes. This is one of our latest, stylish designer ski jackets for kids.

It’s made from 100% plain woven 140gsm laminated TPU polyester, which means it’s tough, abrasion-resistant and with an integrated snow skirt is great for protecting youngsters in extreme conditions. It’s PFC-free, and we treated it with a water-repellent Teflon coating to keep the dirt from sticking. It achieves a 10,000 waterproof rating and a 5000 breathability rating for comfort.

The hood can be unzipped and has elastic adjusters for a comfortable fit. The cuffs have knitted ribs to keep the warmth in and there’s plenty of pocket space with one on the chest and two lower down. We’ve also added reflective elements like piping on the hood for visibility and safety. The seams are fully taped for waterproofing and this jacket is available in European sizes 98 and up. 130G polyester insulation keeps the wearer cosy.

We’ve tested this jacket to ensure that it meets safety requirements, and with its lightning bolt design, we think that your young customers will agree that it passes ‘coolness’ requirements too!
