Skills and Performance Over Certifications

Hello Soulful CXO Fans,

I hope you are doing well. I am thrilled to share the show's latest episode (Ep. 56 - Unlocking the Key Skills for Success). My special guest is Camille Stewart Gloster, Esq , the recent former Deputy National Cyber Director for Technology & Ecosystem for The White House. She advised the President and led technology security, supply chain security, data security, emerging technology, and cyber workforce and education efforts for the Office of the National Cyber Director. Her leadership in developing and implementing the 2023 National Cyber Workforce and Education Strategy and her integral part in drafting and implementing the National Cybersecurity Strategy, the A.I. Executive Order, and the U.S. National Standards Strategy for Critical & Emerging Technology are truly inspiring. Additionally, she sat on the White House AI Council and led the Open Source Software Security Initiative. Prior roles included being the Global Head of Product Security Strategy at Google and the Head of Security Policy and Election Integrity for Google Play and Android.

In this insightful episode, Camille shares her unique journey from growing up with a love for technology, influenced by her computer scientist father, to becoming an attorney passionate about cybersecurity. We delve into practical topics such as the importance of looking beyond traditional qualifications when hiring for cybersecurity and technology roles, the need for organizations to focus on skills and aptitudes rather than just degrees and certifications, and her approach to building effective teams by understanding individual strengths and creating a complementary environment. Additionally, we discuss the challenges in keeping the workforce updated with emerging technology and AI, and we share many FREE resources that anyone can benefit from.

Don't miss this enlightening discussion with valuable advice and core leadership principles.

I want to extend a huge thank you to Camille for sharing her expertise and insights.
