The Small Business Dilemma

The Small Business Dilemma

We all have the same 1,440 minutes in every single day. How you use them is up to you.

Or is it?

You might want to spend some of today's minutes flying somewhere warm. So you can spend the next week away from the wind and the rain. But you can't afford to do that.

Lack of money gets in the way.

I remember travelling to Birmingham for a day of meetings. I wanted to take the train to do some work and arrive relatively refreshed. I didn't want the stress of a 2-hour plus drive each way. My business partner didn't want to spend the money on the rail fares. Driving would be cheaper.

Differing attitudes to the value of time vs money get in the way.

Wealthy vs Poor

People who have money will often spend it to save time.

People who don't have money will spend time trying to get money or to save it.

cash-rich vs time-rich.

What do Successful Business Owners Do?

Successful business owners have learned to spend time wisely.

Initially, that time is spent getting educated about how to run their business.

That shows them where to spend their limited cash so they can:

  • Grow their business,
  • Spend less time per customer, per transaction, per lead generated,
  • Generate more profit,
  • Spend more of their time doing what they want,
  • Be in control of their business, not be driven by it.

In my first business, my business partner and I spent both time and money unwisely. We didn't educate ourselves on how to run a business. After a while, we parted company and closed the business.

The second time around, I got educated. I joined a marketing mastermind and a business education organisation. My second business was a successful six-figure project management consultancy.

I've had subsequent successes and another failure and a less successful business. The latter two had various reasons for not being roaring successes but in part, their poor results were due to a mismatch in attitudes to time vs money and being in control.

My newsletters here and on Linked Business - getting you more leads for less work are my way of sharing my experiences.

Time for Action

The first step is to look at how you spend your time.

The second is to re-evaluate your relationship with money.

The third step is to change a negative into a positive. How? Instead of thinking

I can't do that

Ask yourself

How could I do that?
