New Tax Strategy Alert: If you are a business owner in Pennsylvania Listen up!

The Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP) helps charitable organizations by allowing people and businesses to redirect some of their state tax money to approved charities instead of paying it to the state government. You might have heard of NAP as the EITC program for nonprofits.

The EITC or Educational Improvement Tax Credit, is a Pennsylvania state program that provides tax credits to businesses that donate to approved educational organizations, such as foundations, scholarship funds or educational improvement initiatives. Essentially, companies that contribute to these educational programs can receive tax credits that reduce the amount of state taxes they owe.

  • Businesses donate to a school or a nonprofit organization that supports educational programs.
  • In return, they receive a tax credit of up to 75% to 90% of their donation, depending on certain factors.
  • This allows businesses to support education while reducing their state tax liability.

Recently, the state of PA has increased the amount of money available for EITC from $36 million to $72 million. Now, businesses that donate can get back 90% of their donation as a tax credit, up from 75%. This means if your business donates to a Foundation, you can get a 90% tax credit for every dollar you give. Plus, the other 10% might qualify for extra tax benefits if you donate to a tax-exempt nonprofit 501(c)(3). This could greatly lower your state corporate taxes or even give you a refund.
