"S.M.A.R.T Leadership A.C.T" June 22

Thank you all very much for allowing me to adjust my schedule and training with you. First off I had a last minute opportunity that took me on the road last week to help out an old friend. The journey was  very interesting, I was able to apply several of the laws we are learning, and achieved pretty good success. I make now claims that I am anywhere near perfect in these laws, I too am still growing in them. But getting back into the routine of the training, I noticed I left out some information from the last presentation, and spent a little time on that this morning on our conference call. I will share that with you here at the start of todays notes. Then I wanted to share that with this group, they’ve exceeded my expectation on following the laws, and we spent a little extra time today since I tried to cover 2 lessons worth of material in one session, which by the way is NOT recommended. But this group followed up and kept up with great enthusiasm and energy.

So, let me add here the missing information from the previous session. It is the “P.L.A.N. A.H.E.A.D” acronym

P= predetermine a Course of Action

L=lay out your Goals

A= Adjust your priorities (sometimes on a daily basis, remember the 80/20 rule)

N= Notify key people in your circle about the plan so they can stay up to speed

A= Allow time for acceptance

H= Head INTO action, Get going

E= Expect problems, know how to see them and head them off

A= Always be pointing towards success Key and eye on the prize of your goal

D= Daily review of progress and planning.

Here’s what we know now… We have a lot to learn to become better, greater leaders. However, we don’t need to know it all before we become leaders. Once we start absorbing this information with our desire to grow, we start to attract those that need our example. Even if they’re not in our sphere of influence yet. For those already in our sphere, they will notice changes, and choose to be a part of them or not, LET THEM CHOOSE.

What happens when we take an active role in our growth and the subsequent growth or our team or those around us, is that people are going in all kinds of direction first, we need to set a standard, allow it to infiltrate those around us for a bit while we experience a bit of chaos, and confusion. Soon things will work themselves out, and everybody will be growing as needed in the right direction of the primary leader. This is the Law of Respect. We are naturally drawn to stronger leaders, so we need to find out who that is, and get on board with them at the same time we will be someone’s  “stronger leader” and allow them to get on board with us.

So here I’ll share six qualities that might be a matrix as to why leaders gain respect from others.

1.        Natural Ability

2.       Respect for Others

3.       Courage

4.       Success (or impending success)

5.       Loyalty

6.       Adds Value to Others

Do you see any of those qualities in those you follow? How about in you so others can follow?

By understanding that law, we seamlessly flow right into the next law, which is the Lay of Intuition, This is where we learn how to influence in our sweet spot. We all have this in us, and those that can get a strong hold on it often see the success they desire no matter what challenges are placed in from of them. This is a skill that tackles fear, the unknow, it requires us to take action either towards our goal, or away from, but when we hone in on the power of this, now we really start to customize who we are, and how we approach things.

There are a few simple steps I shared with the group this morning that I think will help sharpen that intuition, and make it easier to follow the choices that come when using that intuition. Her are just a few

1.        READ. Leaders are Readers, Readers of Books, People, Situations, and themselves.

2.       LEARN. Learning is a life time journey, the more you adopt concepts, technics, and skills you’ve seen or read about into your persona, the stronger influencer you’ll be.

3.       APPLY. Always look for opportunities to apply your skill sets, even if they don’t work well, you’ll find out how and when they do.

Now when you take the challenge to develop your intuition more, you’ll find yourself quickly moving into the very next law. This is where things begin to get exciting you’ start to see greater success with the efforts of your daily routine. Just as when you’re trying to become more physically fit, you go thru periods of doubt, maybe even hit a plateau then all of a sudden you see results. Well developing your influence happens in much the same way. You put in the daily grind week after week after month after month, and you think you’ve gained little to no ground then all of a sudden seemingly out of the blue you see traction, you hear from others how you influenced them, you see what they’re willing to do for you. It’s an incredible feeling really.

With these 3 laws we see a symbiotic relationship, they to me are the most fun laws to live in. They offer so much growth, challenge and fulfillment along the journey. Personally I get rejuvenated as I see my growth in these laws, and in turn it encourages me to dive head long into other laws I’m a bit weaker in. I know they can do the same for you. This 3rd law I’m talking about is “Magnetism” as you put in the time, energy and effort, you will attract those that need YOU. You will now be developing your “TRIBE” your “FOLLOWERS” your “TEAM” these people will be there with you, for you, and because of you. If you’re finding people following you that you’re not sure you want in your sphere, you can quickly evaluate why they were attracted to you and change that aspect to weed those types of people out. You’ll now be refining your influence, just as a magnet has a force field around it, the closer objects get to it the stronger the pull.

Now we spent the balance of our time talking about the next three laws as basicly one law, as they have a way of interconnecting with each other.

They are the Laws of Connection, Inner Circle, and Empowerment.

I feel with these three acting as one, you can get a greater sense of who truly is there for you, and your success just as you are there for theirs. Now you’re learning how to open up, and be vulnerable to others, and rely on others, as they are doing the same for you.

You see Leaders touch hearts before they ask for a hand. Great leaders understand that they must give first, and how do you give if you don’t have anything to offer? You get it. Leaders are usually the ones that learn, grow, gain first, then willing to help others with what they learned as to avoid the same pitfalls. What you begin to do is emulate your value to others, you are now teaching others how to grow thru all the laws you exude. You teach other how to treat you and expect to be treated. You are developing a comradery and a “brotherhood” with your sphere of influence and asking a select few into the inner circle to help challenge you to grow, and in return you’re empowering them to grow as well.

So here’s my closing challenge(s) for the week.

Develop an inner circle, of those you respect and are willing to aide in your growth. They usually are people that are in a place where you want to grow to. Make a list of about 15, and make sure they are all have different strengths so they help you grow where you can’t alone. You’ll end up with about 6 that are willing to help, and for those that don’t…. Don’t fret, it’s not their time yet, as you grow and change so will your inner circle. I have a mentor, his inner circle changes every 3-5 yr. that’s because he’s out growing certain ones, and that’s great. You can expect that too, so don’t get hung up if some say no.

Next is to find 4 or 5 people you respect and understand why you respect them, then turn around and find 4 or 5 that respect you and why they respect you. The reasons will enlighten you, and encourage you.
