The Snowball Effect: How Strategic Hiring Fuels Exponential Growth
They say it takes a village to raise a child. Well, guess what? It takes a dream team to grow a company.
Building the Foundation
As a new entrepreneur, I was worried about hiring a new person. I was protective of the business and unsure that I could trust other people. But this mindset kept me from sustainably growing the company. I knew I had to focus my energy on finding the right people who could get tasks done instead of trying to do everything myself.
Attracting top talent at the beginning was challenging. CompQSoft was a totally new brand, anchored on an idea with, at the time, nothing but potential. I didn’t have a fancy logo or a huge office that I could entice applicants with. But I found someone who had just as much faith in my vision as I do. And finding that first key hire was pivotal.
He became more than just an extra set of hands that I could delegate tasks to—he was another brilliant mind I could bounce ideas off, an inspiration to push the company to our next milestone, and a comrade-in-arms when things got rocky.
Ironically, I worked doubly hard after I hired my first employee. I realized I wasn’t just responsible for my own professional future, but for a whole other person’s. That’s when I stopped becoming just a guy with a dream, but a leader with a mission.

The Snowball Effect
Growth was slow initially, but each new hire accelerated our progress. Happy employees became enthusiastic brand ambassadors, creating a pipeline of high-caliber talent through positive word-of-mouth and referrals. This cycle fueled our exponential growth: the more we grew, the more talent we attracted, and vice versa.
In the first few years, I reinvested all of CompQsoft's profits back into the business, leading to a lean budget. This required strategically hiring professionals to handle areas outside my expertise, such as accounting, marketing, and human resources. By proactively anticipating future needs, I also avoided the pitfalls of hiring out of desperation during crises.
More Than Just Talent
Nearly 30 years down the line, CompQsoft comprises a team of over 400 driven, talented, and loyal professionals. Watching everyone excel in their own unique roles and continue to strive to become even better, I’m continuously inspired to drive growth for both my people and my companies.
Now that I have a team of this many people, the next question is: how do I ensure they work well together? In my next post, I'll share strategies on how I help set up my team for success. Stay tuned!
