Social-emotional learning is an educational approach that tries to develop social and emotional skills within the school curriculum. It is the process of increasing self-awareness, self-control, and interpersonal abilities. Students with strong social-emotional skills are better equipped to deal with day-to-day issues.

Schools are responsible for encouraging their students' intellectual, social, and emotional growth. The purpose of social-emotional learning (SEL) is to provide children with the skills they need to recognize their talents, create goals, demonstrate empathy, make sound decisions, control their emotions, and form healthy relationships.
This article will focus on critical social-emotional learning skills.
Self-Awareness- It is the ability to think about and understand our own emotions, thoughts, experiences, and ideals, as well as how these influence our behaviours. Self-aware students will be able to understand their strengths and weaknesses.
Self–Management - It emphasizes the ability of students to regulate and manage their emotions, behaviours and thoughts. It will improve their academic performance and motivate them to achieve their objectives.
Responsible Decision Making- It is the ability to make good decisions and accept responsibility for both good and bad results. It entails studying conditions, issue solutions and problem identification.

Social Awareness -It is the ability to understand and sympathize with others, including those from diverse backgrounds and cultures. It enables students to have good interactions with others. Perspective-taking, empathy, appreciation for diversity and respect for others are all part of it.
Relationship Skills- It is the ability to form, sustain and reestablish good, supportive connections. It entails communicating clearly, actively listening, cooperating, and offering assistance when needed. When students have relationship skills, they may easily develop happy relationships and enjoy spending time with others.
Social-emotional learning teaches pupils skills and competencies that help them control their behaviour and emotions appropriately. It will assist them in improving their relationships. It assists children in improving academic achievement, reducing bullying, lowering dropout rates and developing positive character. Effective SEL programs have a favourable impact on pupils’ academic progress.
