Social Media Engagement - The Right Stuff?
Research is now showing that posts are now reaching only half the audience as before. The audience we are trying to reach as Marketers are following many pages and companies, their newsfeeds are becoming overcrowded and it has become hard to stand out.
So, what does that mean? It means that the content needs to be smart and relevant if we intend to create engagement with our customers and audiences.
Engagement is the reason we are posting, blogging and providing content via Social Media and with this engagement we build our brands and reputations, create conversations, build relationships and attract the coveted potential customers we are all searching for.
Here are some ways to increase engagement through social media.
I. Know your subject matter
Posts must be relevant to your business and market, while being informative and a value to the target audience. Don’t post on topics that are not applicable to the message you are trying to convey. If you are hitting the mark with your messages your audience will like, share and follow, if not they will stop paying attention and look for the information somewhere else.
II. Shareability of your content
One of the measures of success is how many times the audience likes or shares your content. The content must be interesting, relevant and easy to share. Pictures and videos are content that is easy to share and consume. Spend the time and effort to make this content eye catching and worthy of a share.
III. Activity
Are you active on your social media platforms? Do you comment, share and like others content, activity begets activity. The sit and scroll technique won’t work here, you must be active and if you are your followers will be as well.
IV. Be responsive
If you want to maintain the audience you have grown you must respond to questions and comments, positive or negative. This is the whole point of engagement, a conversation with the followers you have gathered. Ignore your audience at your own peril.
V. ASK!
In the real world, how do you get someone to engage with you? Ask a question! Does your content invite questions or comments? Are you asking for that engagement? Try moving toward content that draws the audience in and asks for a comment and when they start, refer to # IV.
Thoughts? Are there others that I have missed, let me know.
