Social Media plays a crucial role in all artists careers, so how as an artist do we best use Social Media?

2025 is coming, and it’s time to look back at your social media timeline and see what you have been up to. Have you been posting regularly, did you gain any followers, do you even have social media? If the answer was “no” to any of the following, it’s time for you to step up your social media game!

Establish your Presence

Well, for starters, as an artist, you need to establish your presence on ALL Social Media platforms, especially, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. This means making sure the username you will be using is well thought out and is the same on all platforms! This helps build consistency and makes it easier for your fans to follow you on all platforms.

For example, all of my social media accounts are labeled as @bella_the_quack_nugget or @Bella Quack.

Post Regularly

Posting regularly is a must! This can be posting once a day to once a week, wherever you think works best. Recently, I have found that if I post once a day on YouTube, I end up getting more engagement on my videos, both the newer ones and older ones.

For example, the most recent video I posted was an original poem called Scissors, and within the first 30 minutes it was able to reach 26 people and 3 likes, which to most, this probably does not seem like a lot, but before posting once a day regularly, it would take days to reach 26 views and get some likes. So posting regularly and consistently is a must!

A great example of an artist who posts regularly to social media is David Kushner. Before any of his song releases, he posts videos to Instagram and TikTok lip syncing the most catchy parts of his songs. As well as that, he constantly posts behind the scenes videos. His most recent post was a behind the scenes video of him recording a music video for his song Empty Bench which just released today! In total he posted about Empty Bench 8 times!

Call to Action

In one of his first few posts about Empty Bench, in the description he added “comment ‘winter’ to get the release date” and then on a later post “comment “winter,” and i’ll dm you an early save link” it's important to remember to add things like this to your posts, this is called a Call to Action! It helps with engagement, gives information, and hooks the audience in!

Advertisements can be free or paid for. You see what I did up there, adding my YouTube channel, that is a free form of advertisement, it fits in perfectly with the topic and gives my channel a bit of recognition.

For example, on Instagram, posts can be "Boosted." This is when you pay Instagram to boost your post to a specific audience, showing up on their explore page, home feed, profile feed, stories, and reels. This helps tremendously in getting your name out there.
