🧂Sodium-Ion Battery can it replace Lithium battery?🔋

Neware Technology Limited

Due to the recent downfall of lithium carbonate prices in June this year, many investors in China are tipping to invest in the research of Sodium-ion batteries, and today let's talk briefly about the history of Natrium batteries and their current development.

🔺 History 🔙 :

Sodium-ion battery was discovered in 1807 by an English chemist and inventor Sir Humphry Davy, but the actual development took place between 1970~1980s. At that time Mr.John B Goodnough already discovered the commercial use of lithium batteries, which had shrouded the ongoing development of sodium-ion batteries until 2020.

🔺 Current development 📈 :

In 2021, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited introduced its first Sodium-ion batteries to the world, with some spectacular specs such as energy density of 160 Wh/kg, 15 15-minute charges to 80%, and 90% discharge efficiency in a minus 20% °C environment. Today all major battery manufacturers in China are investing in Natrium batteries, including HiNa Battery Technology Co., Ltd., Sunwoda Energy Technology Co., Ltd, Svolt Energy Technology Co., Ltd., and Do-Fluoride New Materials Co., Ltd. as well as foreign companies like Natron Energy, Faradion Limited, and Tiamat Energy.

🔺 Future Forecasting 🔜 :

The Chinese Sodium-ion battery development white paper forecasted the growth will reach 369.5 Gwh in 2026, with a market value of 150 billion CNY. There are some advantages Sodium-ion batteries have over Lithium-ion Batteries

🔺Advantages of Sodium-Ion Batteries:

✔Excellence safety – Na battery was able to remain stable with no thermal runaway when pressed, squeezed, and punctured, it can also be discharged to 0% for transportation use without harming its battery health

✔  High performance in low-temperature environments – Na batteries can remain at 90% of discharge efficiency at – 20° Celsius.

✔  Super cheap production cost – The price of sodium is 3000 CNY/ton compared to lithium carbonate at its highest 600,000/ton.

✔Superb fast charge ability- Na battery can be charged to 80% in just 15 minutes. room temperature
