Solaris 2023 Sustainability Report: ambitious steps toward emission neutrality

This comprehensive document outlines how Solaris is committed to social responsibility and integrates environmental and ethical aspects into its daily operations. The report details our efforts to achieve emission neutrality by 2045, a key goal for the CAF Group. It also highlights how our solutions impact the transformation of public transportation in Europe and the steps we are taking to improve working conditions and the development of our employees. 


“Hand in hand with the CAF Group, we have set ourselves an ambitious goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2045, meaning that our efforts are now focused on working towards the fulfilment of this goal. In 2023, we involved teams from different areas of the Company to boost our activities targeted at managing environmental and social aspects while integrating them into the organization’s ongoing operational and decision-making processes,” explains Agata Standa (she/her) , Solaris Bus & Coach Management Board Member for Strategy, Transition and ESG.

🟢  The core of the report is the positive impact of Solaris on the transformation of public transportation in Europe 

In 2023, as much as 82% of the buses we sold were zero- and low-emission vehicles. Furthermore, more than half of them are emission-free at the point of use – battery and hydrogen models. 

These numbers translate into our market successes. In 2023, we ranked first in the European market for zero-emission city buses. Our company achieved the best results in hydrogen technology – almost every second hydrogen-powered city bus in Europe was launched by Solaris, proving our leading role in transforming urban mobility towards zero emissions. 

We remain committed to innovation, including by continuously designing new battery solutions. In 2023, a dedicated battery competence centre was established within the company’s structures, called the Solaris Battery HUB. The centre was established to ensure comprehensive management of battery-related work and pursue the implementation of a closed-loop economy approach in respect of lithium-ion batteries.

🟢 Solaris’s efforts for its employees 

In 2023, Solaris focused mainly on safety and work comfort, implementing several process improvements in production and health and safety initiatives. Additionally, the company developed training programs to help employees acquire new skills identified as key to their and the company's further development. We also launched a new version of the Internal Reporting System, allowing for the safe reporting of legal violations. 

It is worth noting that for our efforts toward sustainability, we received the Silver ESG Leaf from the weekly magazine "Polityka." The award was given for integrating sustainability into our strategy. 

🟢 Sustainable production

The report also contains a compilation of information on the Company, including statistics on responsible management, sustainable manufacturing, products and social responsibility initiatives.

For example, during the last 5 years, we reduced our carbon footprint emissions related to manufacturing processes and energy consumed by as much as 64%. In line with the proximity principle, we are conscious to give preference to domestic suppliers, thereby contributing to the maintenance of jobs in Poland and a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in transport. In 2023, nearly 70% of our suppliers were domestic suppliers.

Bardziej niekompetentnej i utopijnej polityki kadrowej nie widziałem w życiu. Główna dewiza Biuro Rekrutacyjne Solaris: zatrudnimy każdego (nawet gdy ty ręce już wyrastają z tyłka), ale co najważniejsze, nie damy obcokrajowcom możliwości pracy na kontrakcie bezpośrednio.

Soloris , od kiedy tylko pamietam, a jest to kilka dekad ,był organizacją bardzo innowacyjną, każdy natepny model pojazdu zawierał ciekawsze rozwiązania konstrukcyjne oraz technoligiczne . Dlatego dzis jest liderem ekologicznym !
