Is Someone Else Using Your Google Account? Let's Find Out!

Someone else or an unfamiliar device might be logged into one of your online accounts, like Netflix, Instagram, Google, and many more. But there are simple ways to check for suspicious activity, even if you’re not a tech expert. In this post, I’ll use Google as an example.

Why Google? Because almost everyone uses it—whether it's for email (Gmail), browsing (Chrome), storing files (Google Drive), or even photos.

How to Check If Someone Else Is Logged into Your Google Account

  1. Open/Log into Your Google Account:

  • Access your Google account through any browser or the Google app.

2. Go to Security Settings:

  • Click on your profile picture in the top right corner of the screen.
  • Select “Manage Your Google Account.”
  • Scroll to the “Security” tab on the right side.

3. Check Recent Security Activity:

  • In the Security section, scroll down to “Recent security events.” This will show you any recent changes to your account, like password changes or if a new device accessed your account.
  • If you see any activity you don’t recognize, this could be a red flag.

4. Review Devices with Access:

  • Scroll down further to “Your devices.” This will list all the devices currently logged into your Google account.
  • Click on “Manage devices” to see a full list.
  • Look for any unfamiliar devices or locations or sites that your Google account has been used to access. If you see a device that you don’t recognize, it could mean that someone else has access to your account. (Note: It’s normal to have multiple sessions appear for the same device.)

5. Sign Out of Devices:

  • If you spot any device that isn’t yours, click on the three dots next to it (or the arrow on PC) and select “Sign out.” This will immediately log that device out of your Google account.

6. Change Your Password:

  • After signing out of any unfamiliar devices, it’s a good idea to change your password immediately. Go back to the Security section and select “Password” to create a new, strong password. Remember, a strong password is difficult to guess: use a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols.

7. Set Up 2-Factor Authentication (2FA):

  • Don’t stop there; take an extra step with 2-factor authentication (2FA) or Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). You will find options for this above “Your Devices.” With this, even if someone gets your password, they’ll need a code sent to your phone to access your account. It’s an easy way to add an extra layer of security, and you can set it up today!

With just a few simple steps, you can keep an eye on who is accessing your accounts and ensure that your private information remains secure. It’s always better to be safe than sorry, so take a few minutes to check your account today and make sure everything is as it should be.

You can do this from time to time and even for your social media accounts.

Thank you so much for this.... I can relate to this information because such happened to me just a few months ago, though I was able to sign the intruder out but it gave me sleepless night. Thanks to 2FA.. Now I am very much conscious of my account
