The Soulful Journey of Recovery
Dear Colleagues and Friends…..
I am writing to introduce you to my latest book. The Soulful Journey of Recovery gathers the best research from all of my previous books into one, easy and engaging read. In it you will find:
Gary Seidler former owner of Health Communications and U.S. Journal Training writes..."Tian Dayton picks up where Janet Woititz author of Adult Children of Alcoholics left off…..for those who have grown up in a family with addiction, mental illness, or other adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), the heartache and pain doesn’t end when they grow up and leave home. The legacy can last a lifetime and spread to generations unseen. In The Soulful Journey of Recovery, Dr. Tian Dayton details an action plan for readers based on the best research of the past two decades. Herself an adult child of an alcoholic, Dr. Dayton has devoted her life’s work to helping others free themselves from the trauma they thought they had left behind; triggered pain and anger from the past that can derail the present or make relationships unnecessarily stressful.
Powerful, focused exercises and meditations will put readers in touch with their creative, spontaneous side, leading to positive life changes. A journey of self-discovery, the book presents hope circuits of positive psychology, showing readers how take themselves from a place of pain to one of presence. Readers will discover that recovery is a self-affirming life adventure, and the kindest and best thing they can do for themselves and future generations."
Why is this book good for ACAs and Children of Adverse Childhood Experiences?
ACAs and children who have grown up with abuse, neglect and/or relational trauma form deep relational wounds that can play out throughout their lives. They can also lead to physical and mental health symptoms in adulthood. Growing up with addiction is considered an adverse childhood experience. The National Institute on Drug Abuse estimates that a quarter of children in the U.S. grow up in households where there is substance abuse, and studies suggest that children of addicts are eight times more likely to develop an addiction of their own.
Why is this book good for addicts?
Addicts are often self-medicating unresolved relational trauma, the kind that creates a feeling of disconnection from self and others. If this pain isn’t addressed and understood, it may become the pain pump that fuels relapse.
Why is this book good for family members?
First of all living with addiction is traumatizing, additionally many addicts and spouses of addicts bring relational trauma from childhood into their marriages and that trauma seeps into their partnering and parenting. The Soulful Journey of Recovery helps clients to begin the healing process from relational trauma, in a focused and contained manner.
How can Treatment Centers incorporate Soulful Journey?
Down time work: Soulful Journey is ideal downtime reading exercises. Clients can read, do exercises and even share their work with others continuing upon the important work of consolidating their learning and treatment experience. They can also do guided imageries on their own or in a group or listen to interesting lectures.
Is this useful for family members and alumni?
Readers will have all of the most up-to-date research on relational trauma so that they can understand what happened to them as children, how it impacted them and why they may still be living this pain out in their adult lives and relationships.
How can Recovery Coaches, Peer Support Groups and average readers use The Soulful Journey of Recovery?
Soulful Journey is an interactive “go to” that lays out a map of healing and recovering from Relational Trauma. Because it includes exercises it can be a cornerstone of interactive study with coaches and peer support groups. The guided imageries can be done at home or listened to as a group where there can be rich and healing sharing afterwards.
