The space is yours

The space is yours

Hi,

I wanted to chat about something that could make your presentations even better:

Using the space around you.

Because if you’re standing too close to a podium on stage, for example…

It’s like there’s a shield between you and the audience.

And yet, this is common amongst speakers, right?

We tend to stick close to a podium because it can make us feel safe.

Public speaking, after all, can be nerve-wracking.

But guess what?

There's more to explore beyond that podium.

Think of the stage as your playground.

Every step you take can add a new dimension to your presentation.

And stepping away from the podium can make your connection with the audience stronger.

What do I mean?

  • You connect better with your audience

Getting closer to your audience isn't just about being in close proximity.

It's also about building a stronger rapport.

See, when you step away from the podium and into the audience's space…

You show them that you're right there with them.

It’s as if you’re directly sharing your insights, experiences, and expertise with them.

  • You show and tell better

Space lets you interact with visuals better.

Your movements can grab people's attention even more, especially up close.

You can point at charts or demonstrate ideas more effectively.

So, consider using deliberate movements to emphasise key points in your presentation.

  • Boost the room’s energy

Space gives you room to bring more energy to your presentation.

By leveraging the available space you have onstage…

Your gestures, body language, and facial expressions become more impactful.

So, as you gear up for your next presentation, think about how you can use space differently.

The podium can still be there as your reference point.

But don't let it box you in.

Step out.

Engage with your audience.

And let your movements add flavour to your message.

By using space smartly, you can create an experience that goes beyond your words and slides.

And you’ll make a lasting impression on your audience.

So, are you ready to explore the power of space in your next presentation?

Drop me a reply, and let's dive into this.

Cheers,

Carmen
