SPEAKING SURVIVAL GUIDE
Believe it or not, facing a crowd is scarier than facing the end for many Americans! Public speaking tops the fear list, proving that even the thought of death can't compete with the anxiety of standing in the spotlight.
Welcome to the 16th edition of your favourite newsletter! This month, we're diving deep into the world of speaking, that powerful tool that can unlock countless opportunities. Whether you're crushing a presentation, captivating a crowd, or simply connecting with colleagues, the ability to speak effectively is a game-changer.
As I discussed earlier in a post, effectively conveying information requires a two-pronged approach: expanding your intellect and honing your delivery skills. A strong knowledge base provides the foundation for profound insights, while communication skills ensure your message resonates with the audience. By developing both areas, you'll be well-equipped to deliver information that's not just informative, but truly impactful.
BUT HOW CAN YOU FIND THE CONTENT TO PRACTISE YOUR SPEAKING WITH?
It’s not as hard as you think it is.
I am mentioning 3 ways you can get a base for your intellect as well as for brushing your speech delivery.
NUMBER 1
GRAB ANY BOOK AND START YOUR THROWING YOUR OPINIONS.
This is the most fun way to get a starter for your practice session. You don’t need anything or anyone else apart from your book.
Read a few pages of the book, stop and start building up your thoughts and opinions for the content you have read. The pace and your delivery will definitely be slow and bad in the beginning but that's what you have to overcome. The room has to be empty and your imagination should be making you surround yourself on a podcast show, where people are listening to your thoughts and opinions.
This way, your opinion-building and deep analysing skill will open up which will add a lot to your professional character.
Even I am reading “The Magic” by Rhonda Byrne currently and making up my thoughts on the concept of being grateful. You can pick any book you can get your hands onto. No need to look for hyped or best selling books. These are just your practice classes.

NUMBER 2

TELEPROMPTER PRACTICE.
Now that your speaking skill has started to develop, intonations have to be inculcated side by side.
Intonation in simpler language means ‘the style of speaking’. And you can profoundly see this style in the speeches of news reporters and anchors. So, for this step, convert yourself into a reporter and start the teleprompter video in front of you. Bring the intonation by following the sense of words and their level of importance in the sentence. You can watch the videos of real news anchors and learn which type of intonation they use and when.
I am attaching a link to a playlist containing the teleprompter videos for you to practise:
NUMBER 3:
DARE IT
Now that both of your skills (talking and intonation) are coming on the track, it's important to execute your practice without having any available content.
For this step, simply dare to come out of your comfort zone and let your intrusive thoughts win.
Initiate discussions and hop into debates to test your intellect as well as your delivery.
This part requires will to forgive yourself for any mistakes you may make along the way.
Now that you've got a treasure trove of content to practice with, remember: conquering public speaking takes time and dedication. Don't get discouraged by initial stumbles – embrace them as stepping stones on your journey to becoming a confident and impactful speaker. With consistent practice and the valuable tools you've learned here, you'll transform your fear into a powerful asset, propelling you towards professional success!
