Speaking your mind? How?-Short Speech Ideas.

Recently I was a speaker at a social event where my time slot was for 5 minutes and the organizer cut it down to only 2 minutes.

Why?

It rained like cats and dogs in Delhi that day and everyone including the audience arrived late at the venue which impacted the event flow.

So now - a 5-minute speech cut down to a 2-minute speech.

My initial reaction was let's not do it but then the organiser had expectations as he had seen me talking and was very impressed already but at the same time, he apologized for the lesser time, reasons already shared.

This happens to public speakers when they are asked to cut down and speak short, precise, and clearly. It does have an impact, but it's not everyone's cup of tea, either. Many speakers don’t bother what organizers say, or sometimes, the public speaker is clueless. I noticed some speakers acknowledged the organiser but they took their own time. That doesn't impress me much because I feel as a speaker your job is to keep your organiser and audience happy. Need to find a spot to maintain it. With these thoughts,I delivered and the anchor there complimented me,

"Brevity is only for Brave ones. Well done sir. You rocked it."

Here's what you can do if you are told to speak for less time than the original time impromptu.

1. Clear outline: If this is ready, you can keep it short and big according to your flow.

2. Backup content: As speakers, we always have something in the backlog to apply as and when we see the situation. Here, your presence of mind comes into play.

3. Develop a sense of start and end: If this prevails, then you know what message you have to give to your audience in 30 seconds – as we do in the reels,1 minute or 2 minutes of speech.

Having a command on your start and end solves half the problem immediately if you have to cut down a long speech to a short one.
