E-commerce continues to have it's affect on brick and mortar retail, nevertheless, this year PetSmart has opened 18 stores in the U.S. and Canada, and expect to increase that number. In 2016, the chained opened 70 stores.
The chain is expanding its New York footprint by opening a third store in the City in the NoMad neighborhood. The retailer leased a 16,280 sq. ft. space at the ground floor of 10 Madison Square, a new luxury condominium.
"We continue to execute our real estate strategy to engage new customers and improve our competitive position", said Brian Amkraut of PetSmart. "Expanding our retail footprint is a key component of PetSmart's omni channel strategy focused on convenience, including same-day and scheduled at-home delivery, as well as the popular buy online/pick up in store option".
