‘Spectacular in a Losing Effort’ by Jerry F. Pillarelli available now

Although I have only met him once, and we have not seen each other in eight years, I consider Tucson-based author and photographer Jerry Pillarelli a friend.

Jerry just recently released his first book, Spectacular in a Losing Effort: A Travel Memoir. I am honored to be included in the book, in Chapter 28: Religion of Nature.

In the summer of 2016, Jerry and I met high atop a sand dune at Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado. We talked for a little while, exchanged contact information, and then went our separate ways.

I reached out to him later that summer and he informed me that while on his hike up to the top of the dune, he snapped a picture of me overlooking the sandy expanse. In my opinion it is the best picture of me ever taken.

Jerry and I have kept in contact over the years, and not too long ago he asked me to read an advance copy of his book and write a short blurb for it.

This is what I wrote, and it appears on the inside cover of the book…

“In Spectacular in a Losing Effort, author Jerry F. Pillarelli takes the reader along for the ride in such a descriptive manner that you will think that you were actually there. Reflecting on the remarkable highs and lows of his life, Pillarelli’s journey takes you to every corner of the nation, world, and even up to the stars. This book is ‘spectacular’ in every way!”
