Canalys’ November IT Opportunity update predicts an 8.3% growth in worldwide IT spending in 2025, reaching US$5.44 trillion. This is despite the emergence of new economic and political uncertainties following the 2024 global elections super-cycle.

"2025 will be a year of robust growth for the tech industry, even as global economic and political conditions remain uncertain. Partner-delivered IT will grow 7.1% to account for 70% of the total addressable IT market," said Matthew Ball , Chief Analyst, Canalys.

The latest Canalys data shows that AI-capable PC shipments hit 13.3 million units in Q3 2024, accounting for 20% of all PC shipments during the quarter. AI-capable PCs are defined as desktops and notebooks that include a chipset or block for dedicated AI workloads such as an NPU.

In Q3 2024, according to the latest Canalys research, the global smart personal audio market experienced a significant rebound, with total shipments reaching 126 million units, reflecting a 15% year-on-year growth. This marks the third consecutive quarter of growth, signaling a sustained recovery from challenges faced in 2023.

Key growth drivers:

  • Indian market surge: 51% shipment increase.
  • Open-form factor devices nearly tripled.
  • Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) devices reach 21% market share.

“The Indian market played a crucial role in boosting both APAC and global growth, with a 51% rise in shipments, adding approximately 9 million units compared to Q3 2023. This surge was fueled by a 47% increase in TWS device shipments and an impressive 65% jump in wireless earphones, led by brands such as boAt Lifestyle and OnePlus ,” stated Canalys Research Analyst, Jack Leathem .
“The open-form factor device segment was a standout growth area in Q3 2024, aligning with the rise in global health and fitness trends,” said Canalys Research Manager, Cynthia (Qiufan) Chen .

According to the latest Canalys data, worldwide tablet shipments increased by 11% year on year in Q3 2024, reaching 37.4 million units. This marks the third consecutive quarter of growth for the tablet market, driven by a resurgence in demand across both the consumer and commercial sectors.

  • Back-to-school season, holiday inventory buildup and business IT spending contributed to growth.

  • Xiaomi emerged as the fastest-growing vendor with a 58% year-on-year increase.
