Vedas and their Significance

‘Veda’ is the expression of truth experienced by seers and saints of ancient times. Veda originates from the root word ‘vid’. Veda means wisdom. Veda speaks about human welfare and divine life in three phases of time and in all the three worlds. It propounds that the worldly life can be made a purposeful life through worldly actions. (Divine Discourse 31 July 1996 )

The Vedas are the very form of God. Everyone should necessarily learn the Vedas, contemplate on them, and chant them wholeheartedly - Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba

Sri Rudram

Sri Rudram is a Vedic mantra or chant in reverence to Rudra taken from the Krishna Yajurveda's Taittiriya Samhita.

It comprises two parts, the Namakam and Chamakam. Sri Rudram is also known as Śri Rudrapraśna, Śatarudrīya and Rudradhyaya.

Purusha Suktam

The Purusha Suktam declares, the Cosmic Being has thousands of heads, eyes, and feet (Sahasra Seersha Purusha Sahasraksha Sahasra Pad). It is God who pervades the entire universe with His thousands of heads, hands, feet, and eyes - Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba

The central message of the Purusha Suktam is that the Purusha would consume Himself in the fire of creation, to create all the worlds. From this sacrifice did all of creation emanate. Learn Here

Hold on to His feet - When sandalwood is rubbed repeatedly, the fragrance from it increases; When the sugarcane is chewed again and again, the juice gets sweeter. When gold is heated in the crucible repeatedly, it becomes pure and brighter. The noble ones adhere to righteousness through all the vicissitudes of life. (Divine Discourse 1992-04-04)

Limitless Desires are the reason for Man's agony - In the daily newspaper, you find many news items that speak volumes about the anger, hatred, and jealousy in man. These evil tendencies are the bitter enemies of man. People are worried about the harmful effects of certain planets. In fact, desire and anger are the two planets that cause the greatest harm to mankind. Yes, desires are essential for man. But excessive desires wreak danger. Na sreyo niyamam vina (without discipline, there can be no well being). Desires should be under limit. (Divine Discourse 2003-04-02)

Excessive talk leads to many problems - The one who can talk does not study and the one who studies does not talk. Bhagawan cautions repeatedly by saying, “less talk more study”. (Divine Discourse 1996-06-27)

Pursue the Guru Within - The true meaning of Guru is "one who dispels the darkness of ignorance". Another meaning of the word is "one who is beyond attributes and forms, namely, the Supreme Self (The Brahman)". When this Self is within you where is the need to search for someone to teach you? A teacher who teaches others has had a teacher himself. The one who has no Guru above him is the true guru. (Divine Discourse 1996-07-30)

Mana Bangaru Parthi Baba by Mrs Mahathi, a young Carnatic musician and an award-winning playback singer who has sung more than 700 songs in five languages. A student of music legend, late Dr Balamuralikrishna, she was recognised as a child prodigy even as a toddler. In this week's Sri Sathya Sai Sangeet, we offer you the bhajan, 'Mana Bangaru Parthi Baba' that she sang during her concert in the Sai Kulwant Hall on Nov 18, 2017.

Bhola Bhandari Baba Violin Instrumental by M Lalitha & M Nandini, Dr M. Lalitha and M. Nandini have been widely acclaimed as outstanding South Indian classical violin virtuosos of today. Hailing from an illustrious family of musicians, they belong to the Sishya Parampara of Sri Baluswamy Dikshitar, brother of one of the musical Trinity, Sri Muthuswamy Dikshitar. Apart from the Carnatic style, they are highly proficient in Western Classical Music, World Music, Ethnomusicology and Trans Global fusion music. Dr Lalitha holds a doctorate in Indian Music from the University of Madras, while Ms Nandini is a triple master's degree holder, one of which is in Ethnomusicology from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.

Krishna Nee Begane Keyboard Kalaimamani K. Sathyanarayanan, popularly known as Keyboard Sathya (@keyboardsathya ) is India's first A-grade artiste of the All India Radio for Carnatic Music on the keyboard. He has been under the tutelage of legendary musicians such as Kum. A. Kanyakumari, Sri Mandolin U. Shrinivas and Dr M Balamuralikrishna. At the age of 10, Sri Sathyanarayanan was among the youngest to have passed the Grade 8 keyboard examinations conducted by Trinity College, London. He has released over 25 albums and has performed in over 1900 concerts collaborating with greats of the music field such as Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Drums Sivamani and composer Yanni.

Devotional Song on Lord Venkateshwara Swami - Ms Savitha Narasimhan, one of the young vocalists in the forefront of Carnatic music today, who began her music training at a young age under Gurus such as Sri Shankara Sharma, Smt Rama Ravi and Sri A. S. Raghavan. She is currently training under virtuoso Sri Chitravina Ravikiran and is a member of his ensemble, 'Vintage Virtuosos'. We present you a song from her rendition on the occasion of the Vijaya Dashami celebrations at Prasanthi Nilayam, on Oct 11, 2016.
