What Led You to Become a Building Inspector, and What Do You Enjoy Most About the Job?
I became a building inspector to move forward in my career and to make the most of the knowledge I’ve gained over the years. After working in construction, I realised that I could use my experience in a way that would allow me to be my own boss and provide a service that really helps people. What I enjoy most about the job is the independence it gives me. Being my own boss means I can manage my time and work in a way that suits me while still giving my clients a top-quality service. It’s very satisfying to know that my skills help people make informed decisions about one of the biggest purchases they’ll ever make.
How Do You Build Trust with Clients During an Inspection, Especially When They Might Be Anxious About Potential Issues?
Building trust with clients is really important, especially when they’re worried about potential problems with a property. I believe in being straightforward and avoiding any technical jargon or misinformation that might make them more anxious. I try to communicate clearly and in a way that’s easy to understand. I always explain the inspection process in detail and take the time to address any concerns they might have. By keeping things simple and being open, I help put their minds at ease and build a strong, trusting relationship.
What’s the Most Valuable Lesson You’ve Learned in Your Career, and How Has It Shaped the Way You Conduct Inspections Today?
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that people sometimes try to hide issues. Whether it’s done on purpose or not, there can be problems with a property that aren’t obvious at first glance. This lesson has changed how I approach inspections. I’ve trained myself to look beyond what’s visible and dig deeper to find any hidden issues. My goal is to provide a thorough and accurate inspection so clients can make informed decisions. Being detail-oriented is a key part of my work, and it’s something I take pride in.
What Skills or Traits Do You Think Are Essential for Someone in Your Role?
To be successful as a building inspector, it’s important to have a solid understanding of the construction trade. Having experience in construction is really valuable because it helps you spot both good workmanship and potential problems. You also need to have a good eye for detail, strong problem-solving skills, and be able to explain your findings clearly. Being honest, reliable, and knowing the building codes and standards inside out are also crucial. These skills and traits help ensure that inspections are thorough and that clients get clear, useful advice.
What Do You Hope to Achieve in Your Role That Will Have a Lasting Impact?
My main goal is to provide a service that really helps people. Buying a home is one of the biggest investments someone will make, and I want to make sure they’re making a well-informed decision. By offering a thorough and reliable inspection service, I hope to give clients the confidence that they’re making the right choice. If I can do that, I’ll feel like I’ve made a lasting impact.
