Square pegs and round holes – reflections on my current journey as a learner

As a lifelong learner, I'm on a quest to sharpen my entrepreneurial skills. Recently started an online hybrid training course – a mix of real-time and self-paced components. 🚀 The experience is both enlightening and thought-provoking.

What's been good so far:

  • Flexibility of late-night Sunday training sessions. 🌙
  • Taking responsibility for my own learning. 💡
  • Cost effectiveness: no travel or hotel bills. 💰
  • Common goal with the motivated team. 🤝
  • Clear roadmap, interim goals, and helpful modules. 🗺️
  • Real-time tutor support and chat platforms. 🎓
  • Useful content like templates, tips, and tricks. 📚

Sticking points:

  • Set program seeming more important than the client. 🤔
  • Overwhelm with content and tasks. 🌪️
  • Feeling responsible for getting stuck. ❓
  • Individual needs lost in standardized training. 🔄
  • Identifying a good fit for clients is complex. 🔍
  • Psychological safety for effective feedback is tricky. 🚧
  • Self-directed learning stress with deadlines. ⏰
  • Online networking is supportive but can be inhibiting. 🌐

Takeaways:

  • Privilege to be a learner makes me a better coach/trainer. 🎓
  • Difficulty of a standard curriculum fitting specific needs. 🧩

What do you think? Share your self-directed learning experiences! 🤔

Both as a learner and trainer I can underline your experience: A 'one size fits all' approach is rarely satisfactory. When scaling a program, I think the art is in providing the right choice of modules and true 1:1 intervals to personalise the experience. I think scaling an individualized service is always tricky. How do you see it?
