Stand Out on LinkedIn with Creator Mode, Cover Story, Service Pages and more!
LinkedIn, the world's largest professional network, now has almost 740 million members in over 200 countries and territories worldwide.
As LinkedIn continues to live up to its mission of "connecting the world’s professionals to make them more productive and successful," it also continues to roll out new features to enable us LinkedIn members to achieve our goals.
And I'm excited to share with you a quick list of the upcoming features that will set you up for success on LinkedIn. These new LinkedIn Profile features, says LinkedIn, can help you "better represent" yourself in a "more authentic way."
Here you go:
#1: LinkedIn Creator Mode
If you share content and insights on LinkedIn, then the LinkedIn Creator Mode will be an exciting feature for you! With this new feature, you can showcase on the top card of your LinkedIn Profile the topics you write about through hashtags.
"Every day, LinkedIn is seeing members share and connect like never before with almost a 50% increase in conversations, and with nearly five billion connections made over the past year." — Tomer Cohen
And according to LinkedIn, once your Creator Mode is on:
- Instead of the Connect button, your primary profile CTA will be changed to FOLLOW.
- The number of your followers will be displayed in your LinkedIn Profile intro.
- You can add hashtags to your intro display the topics you write about.
- Your LinkedIn Profile will be reordered to show your Featured and Activity sections first.
- Your Activity section will showcase more of your recent content. And your likes, comments and other activity will no longer be shown on the said section.
Roy Bernat, co-founder and CTO at IAMOPS, already has LinkedIn Creator Mode rolled out in his profile. And here's how his profile looks now with this new feature turned on:
You'll notice the changes made above:
- Hashtags are found below the LinkedIn headline.
- The number of followers is shown, aside from the number of connections.
Below, you'll notice that the Activity section is expanded to have up to six posts visible, and below that section is the About section. Roy's comments on other's profiles are no longer visible in the Activity section.
Originally, the About section is found above the Featured and the Activity sections. With the Creator Mode turned on, the sections have been reordered, placing the About section below the Featured and Activity sections.
By the way, if you view Roy's profile now, you won't see these changes unless the Creator Mode is already rolled out also on your profile.
As far as I can remember, that's how LinkedIn rolls out new features. What you see on other people's profile is based on what's already rolled out in yours.
LinkedIn Live broadcasters can also use their LinkedIn Profile background to highlight their live broadcast. I find this a super valuable way to make you stand out as a content creator!

Remember: To turn the Creator Mode on, you need to allow 'Everyone on LinkedIn' to follow you.
Switching the 'Who can follow You' to 'Connections Only' will automatically turn off your Creator Mode.

#2: Cover Story
Are you ready to bring your professional story to life? LinkedIn will enable you to upload a short video to your LinkedIn Profile to do just that — bringing your story to life!
I'm excited about this feature because I see this as a way to add another layer of authenticity to your profile. Imagine being able to tell your story and capturing your network's interest by showing who YOU are the first time they visit your profile.
So how does this work?
Here's what LinkedIn says:
Once you add your Cover Story, an orange ring will appear around your Profile photo, and a preview of your video will auto-play silently within your photo frame (we like to think of it as the “Harry Potter” effect). And, stay tuned for captioning capabilities coming soon.
Whether you want to land a job, find a client or grow your LinkedIn follower base, the video Cover Story is a perfect way to stand out! Watch the video here to learn more.

#3: Service Pages
Are you a freelancer? Then, this upcoming feature is an exciting one for you! LinkedIn is soon rolling out a new feature called Service Pages to help you attract new clients by listing your services right on your profile.
So what does this mean for freelancers? If you're still in freelance platforms such as Fiverr or Upwork, which are making a cut — as freelancer services fees — on your earnings, this is a great time to use LinkedIn to get found by new clients.
The Service Page on your profile helps you attract prospective clients and when you win the project, you get 100% of your earnings! But of course, unlike other freelance marketplaces, there's no payment system yet to help you get paid directly on LinkedIn.
Independent consultants, coaches and every professional that offers services will benefit from this upcoming feature. With the Service Pages, people in your network — whether you're connected or not — will be able to contact you, according to LinkedIn.

More LinkedIn Features To Look Forward To
According to reports, LinkedIn is also adding other new features including the following:
- 'Stay-at-home mom' as job title. This will enable moms who have temporarily stopped working to "provide more accurate descriptions of their time" away from paid work.
- A Clubhouse-like social audio experience that will further enable LinkedIn content creators to connect with their community.
“We are doing some early tests to create a unique audio experience connected to your professional identity. And we are looking at how we can bring audio to other parts of LinkedIn such as events and groups, to give our members even more ways to connect to their community.” — Suzi Owens (Source: TechCrunch)

3yStay at Home Mom should be changed to Works at Home Mom. (No mom simply 'Stays' at home - even if she's not earning a paycheck, mom is working.) You're either a WAHM -Work at home mom or WOHM - Work outside home mom -- unless the cabana boy is making you margaritas and feeding you bon-bons all day. Then, you're a SAHM. 😁

3yit will be interesting to see how the bulk of LinkedIn Nation responds to these new features. Whereas engagement is way, way up on the platform, the percentage of users who actually participate on an immersive or advanced level is not very high. LinkedIn educators (present company included) need to address the huge knowledge gap that exists between people who embrace the innovation and those who find even the most basic tasks tough going. Something I hinted at back in 2006 when I discovered the site still holds true: your LinkedIn profile is your most prized digital asset in the business universe.
