HOW YOU CAN HELP.... ARE YOU A LOCAL BUSINESS??

ADOPT STARTER PACKS AS YOUR CHARITY FOR THE YEAR...

*organise a 'bring an item to work day' (mug/ tin opener/ wooden spoon/ duvet etc)

*have a team competition...can the office team donate more items than the warehouse team?

*can your company donate a months rent/ fund a qty of packs/buy a years supply of washing up liquid...

*Choose us for your 'community giving day' and get the team to pop in and help sort donations/ deliver packs/ work in the shops...

*for the next staff night out...pay for your ticket in mugs/duvets/cutlery/towels/toilet rolls/bedding

*Don't have a swear jar.. have 'an annoying phrase jar' every time the boss says... 'Hit the ground running/on the back of that/ going forward/' etc.. Then he/she is fined.

*Are you looking for work experience....You could volunteer on a Saturday in one of our shops

* Organise a 'shoe box appeal' fill a small box with cloths/ cleaning products/ cutlery / utensils.

*£10 challenge..groups of students are given £10.. This is used to buy raw materials, which are then used to make items which can be sold/raffled etc and the team that makes the most money is the winner (all monies raised goes to Starter Packs)

WHAT WE DO....

We are a fab wee charity based on Burleigh Street in Govan, we have 3 units on the street.. Our HQ and 2 shops.. The Magpies Nest & The Magpies Eye....we source a wide range of household items (new & used) which we use to create a starter pack. The starter packs are then distributed to people across Glasgow who are moving from homelessness into a new, permanent tenancy. Any donated items which are not suitable for the packs are sold in one of our two retail units on Burleigh Street or sent for re- cycling.

WHAT'S IN A PACK...

Every pack contains a duvet (always new), sheets, duvet cover, pillow cases. Dinner plates, cups/mugs, cutlery, bowls, glasses, pots, frying pan, tin opener, utensils. Cleaning products, cloths, sponges, toilet rolls, toiletries & towels. Kettle, toaster/iron (where available)

SOME FACTS N FIGS

Each year we supply around 700 packs which helps about 1000 people. Our typical client is a single male, however we also supply packs for families and young women who have just given birth, in these cases we try to provide a travel cot, pram and baby items.

*Do you have any clearance stock we could use in our packs or sell in our shops. (You could donate it or let us know what you have and we can buy it)

*Can you donate a couple of cages or clothing rails to help with our sorting process or shopping baskets for our shops...

ARE YOU A GROUP OR AN INDIVIDUAL???

*Could you spare some time to volunteer in the shops, donation sorting station, office or van.

*Are you crafty... Could you up-cycle or re-purpose some of our donated items (make peg bags from curtains/shopping bags from a duvet cover, decorate some glasses)

*Could you organise a fund raiser for us, sell some home baking, donate unwanted gifts for us to sell in our shops/ put into packs

*Moving house or changing your colour scheme?? Why not donate your curtains/cushions/ lamps/ furniture

*Lost some weight.. (Well done!) why not donate your old wardrobe to us (we can take the wardrobe and everything in it!!)

it delivered to us...or simply pop into either of our shops and have a look at some of the cool stuff we get donated, enjoy the
friendly banter and, of course, spend a couple of quid!!

W e keep our prices low to cater for the people in our community, items of clothing can be bought from as little as 50p, books are normally 3 for £1, couches usually start at £15. Looking for a vintage tea-set... The Eye &The N est are the places to visit, discover a mountain of vinyl, CDs, DVDs...

When our wee van (Dignity) delivers a pack we like to have some extra items available that we can give to our

clients, tables, lamps etc. it's not always possible but we do our best!!

FACEBOOK APPEALS

At Christmas and Easter we have Facebook appeals for gift items/Easter eggs that we can put into the packs being delivered over the festive period. We also put out regular appeals for items we might be running out of for packs.

Our supporters

Last year one of our regular supporters contacted us to say she would like to do a Xmas box for a family... We gave basic details of a family we had recently helped (how many people in the family and ages of children.. Very basic info due to data protection regulations) we then received a hamper of goodies and pressies along with a gift card for the family to buy Xmas dinner from a local store.. We took great pleasure in delivering this gift from one family to another.

Another supporter (an elderly lady) wanted to give a gift to another elderly person, we had recently supplied a pack to a gentleman and were delighted to deliver a hamper of Xmas goodies donated just for him.
